Well, no, it's not "private" - but I do feel that it is f*cking up the thread!

A place for everything and everything in its place. tidy, that's me .... NOT!

Lol... Jerry has never quite 'embraced' the joys of AoS thread-drift! See it as a free bump...

Anyway, info noted. The thread-drift can be rubbed out if you wish, sire?

    Nah - that's fine.

I'm OK with AOS thread drift - it just seemed you two guys were planning your personal diaries on someone else's thread.

    Pre-amp update --

The XTC solid state pre is sold. Good but definitely a step-down from the Bent Audio TVC passive and Morgan Audio 500 valve pre.

At the moment, the TVC is "resting" and I am very much enjoying the musical insight of the Morgan valve pre.

The innards will certainly mean more to the technically-minded than they do to me ... but that transformer seems very generously sized for a pre-amp!
It uses two ecc83 and two ecc82 valves.
In the photo are RCA ecc82 and CVC ecc83 ... hmm, not ideal for some reason. But in situ now are TAD 12AX7 (ecc83 equivalent) which I like for their openness and purity of sound, and Amperex 12AU7A (ecc82) which I like for their hint of 'valvey' warmth of tone and natural musicality. A very nice combination - the music sounds very spacious yet focussed, detailed, articulate and fluid. Love it!

Perhaps I'll bring it along to the meetup with Martin and Marco?

A little on the cool and lean side, Si.
You recall the XTC pre? - nice sound, but the Morgan has better rez in the mids and top, not as deep or solid bass (although it's not bad, it's just that the XTC was particularly good in the bass, imo), the XTC was def a bit warmer and fuller sounding. The Morgan is better focussed, really quite excellent, actually..
The Morgan suits my tastes better. It's kind of a lean, mean detail machine.
I've done a fair bit of tube rolling, and that seems to affect the soundstaging/spaciousness more than anything else. Really works well with my TAD/Amperex toobs!
