What are you feeding DAC wise from the play station?

I was playing blu rays and dvds through the hdmi but now im planning on ripping my cds onto the hard drive and listening with toslink. The subs inputs are mostly toslink with one usb and one set of rca which will be used for the turntable.

Ok, well i'd set the output to a multiple of 44.1KHz if playing CDs, you should find 88.2KHz & possibly 176.4KHz.

I'd go with 44.1 if you don't want the things upsampled as it sounds like it might be able to do that

DVDs & Blu Rays tend to use multiples of 48KHz, IE 48, 96 & 192KHz

Thanks Mark. All this is new to me. I must have been living in a cave he last 10 years.
You think its worth outputting movie soundtracks via optical and just using the HDMI for pictures?

Apologies for the late reply, i have just got back from shopping

I'm not sure if you'll be able to output via the Toslink when dealing with Blu Rays, though you should be able to with DVDs However, i'n not sure if your 2.1 setup will like dealing with a possible 5.1 or 7.1 stream of data

I'd suggest you give it a try just to see if it works & then make up your own mind, just don't forget to set the output to 48 or 96KHz when doing so

Cheers. I think i will leave the dac to upsample cd. I cant hear any loss of detail compared with the previous system but it does sound very deifferent.
Sounds a lot more air/space but dynamic shifts dont slam me in the face as they used to. Sounds more gentle and easier on the ear. Going to take a while to get used to the change of sound.

Hmmm, doesn't it have an automatic setting so it simply chooses whatever it needs?
