    Default Oh No!

I think i'm gonna cry! My Sony DVP-S725D DVD player wont read discs, i think the laser has packed up, tried to re calibrate it through the software but just wont have it..cleaned the Laser lens nop! just reads as no disc or if your lucky C13:00..Tried loads of discs, but all the same took me a long time to find a player with picture quality like this machine.

Does anyone know where i can get a lagit Sony made laser mech from in the UK?

They use different lasers for both CD & DVD, they might be in the same casing but there are two of them as far as i know The CD laser runs at about 650nm & The DVD laser about 540nm if i remember correctly...

Think about it, if they used the same laser then it'd have to be the 540nm one as it needs a shorter wavelength or you'd not be able to get 4.7Gb on a 5 1/4" disc

Before going mad i'd attempt to find out what other DVD players use the same laser mech This is what i did to get a replacement for my Krell DT10, i did some research & found that the cheap CDM4/19 laser will fit onto the alloy CDM4/36 mech. Stuff paying £400 for a new mech when i bought a perfectly working CD player for about £20 delivered..
