Prototype sneak peak! This is very much a hacked up prototype on a Hammond biscuit tin and doesn't look like much but to get to this point is fairly massive. Most of the amp's "DNA" has now been...
Real prototype pair nearly in existence!
Oops, wrong kind of insulation :D
It works! I blew it up a couple of times in the process and have a large list of small errors to correct, but aside from dialling the feedback, everything is now working!
:D
The PSU board has proven to work - the active ripple killer circuit works far better than it has any right to. The screen supply is also functioning correctly.
I'm actually fairly certain...
Approaching first power / fire / smoke!!
Will sort some pics soon.
Excited to confirm that all tested subsystems on the board actually function as expected (after a bit of minor bodging), in theory adding an output stage will result in a working amp!
Had a bit of a fight with my wordpress where I upload them (messed up the scaling) - will fix soon!
Test boards in progress!
Well, I'd have the boards in my hand right now if it weren't for inept couriers, fingers crossed for tomorrow.
I'll come back to the design aspect later maybe :D
In other news, the PCBs have been manufactured and waiting for shipment!
I agree - it was by no means a final version. The final was definitely going to incorporate Radford / Radford revival on there somewhere. I have updated it with something more mundane for now so...
Basically I thought it looked quite cool as a flourish but it's not set in stone. It embodies the concept of the amp quite nicely. If it freaks people out too much I can remove it
The symbols are Japanese as it happens, I've just been toying around with things. They are symbols for the concept of "kaizen" or "continuous improvement"
The cage will be affixed with screws so...
Here is a pictured pulled out the CAD and is dimensionally accurate. What you can't see is that there are two cages split down the middle of the amp (the split is from left to right, not down the...
Nearly - there are a few dimensional details I need to suss out but it's 95% there. They will look very Radford-esque. There will be two cages, a front one will be readily removable so that valves...
PCBs moving through the production process, hopefully will have them in a few days.
:D
Exciting times, PCBs ordered!
:D
The design has moved on considerably from the original prototype which in hindsight was a bit daft in some ways, despite working well. The amount I have learned during the development of this...
PCBs of the new version of the amp coming soon! The project is in fact coming together finally. Took a while but I have officially broken the back of it now. Watch this space.
More progress made, prototype mains transformers have arrived and PCBs nearing completion
Getting much closer now, tentatively stating that this amp will be epic!
Hi Edward
Hope to post some pictures when the prototype chassis is up and running - we have some off the shelf chassis that are roughly the right size to test all the PCB assemblies before moving...
