Thanks Barry - I enjoyed it with a cup of coffee :) The site shows what a craft record making is.
I didn't understand the criticality of mastering until I reached that puzzling moment when...
That was a bit of a provocation on my part :) The problem is probably that many CDs simply get the same mastering as other digital files, so are compromised by a sound that's aimed at headphones,...
If you look at this from the equipment end of the process, then in my opinion a budget CD player is better than a budget vinyl player.
BUT
The years have told me you need to look at it from the...
I'm pleased to think that this is enabling your friendship to continue in another way and in spite of his passing. I think it's the most worthwhile thing I've read on the web all week.
PS - the first seller's 3mm version has just hit £67.50, three times what it was 6 months ago. I've heard about dynamic pricing but this is "unbelievable Jeff"!

Good spot - will nab one.
I thought about buying one of these late last year. From memory they were around £20 at the time. Good job they're not in the "basket" that calculates RPI since they seem to go up a few quid every...
You forget that it was common for manufacturers to have graph decals on equipment. I wonder how many Amstrad owners studied these frequency performance curves?

I have a huge amount of sympathy with folks who arrange events for others. Whether it's a blokes' weekend or the WAM Show it always seems like a thankless task. Everyone seems happy to toss in...
I have some great coloured vinyl LPs. However black shows things up better and I understand that quality checking at pressing plants or by vendors can't be as effective on coloured vinyl.

Decent article. There should be more like it and not the usual lazy retro-is-hip filler each time the sales figures are released.
I think I've made this point before, but IMHO prices since the...
Brilliant. Hats off to you, sir.
Nice photos too. This thread is worth a dozen "coffee table" picture books.

Unfortunately you can't unsee it now.
It's almost enough to make you give up on mankind.
Anyway, back to Christmas...
Hmmm...the thing with the modern world is there's just too much choice and, assuming you can afford it, too much stuff to fill your house with.
One reason I don't stream is that I can't focus on...
His wife is quoted by the BBC as saying that he was a "contradiction" due to loving both England and Ireland. That hybrid was perfectly reflected in the music with that unique blend of Gaelic folk...
The article's opening statement that vintage gear is unreliable needs qualification. Depending on your definition of vintage, and being able to agree that normal servicing isn't the same as meaning...
So well-known that we might accidentally miss them out -

A trend from the US - someone grades your record and seals it, like they do with collectable old baseball player cards. And suggests a value five times higher than it would have been.
Can't see...
First single (got in a swap) - Alice Cooper School's Out
First single (bought) - The Sweet The Ballroom Blitz
First album (co-opted from parents) - Readers Digest Promenade Favourites

I've just enjoyed passing a tranquil hour from the clocks going back with a coffee and a gentle browse of the site - got blissfully carried off by the story of the Lockwoods from Trident. Marvellous...
Belatedly for future readers, Cable Talk 3 suits Exposure and I've seen it writ many times that one of the Exposure DMF versions might be CT3 rebadged.

Probably the earliest ever models judging by those decals.
Enjoy!

Over here
After the usual Japanese amps when I was young I got really into the Quad sound for a while. Things were fine until one day I heard an old "biscuit tin" Exposure VII and VIII...
Seems to me there are always exceptions on things like this, but most of my '70s and '80s albums play great, even the ones as thin as the plastic pint glasses you get at festivals. Like, I'm...
Yes, the Mk1 PSU had a reputation, you don't see many still working these days (unless you're watching an Inspector Morse repeat). A very, very good deck though, I had one for a while.
