Looking forward to giving this Gator board a try in my Caiman.
Recently bought a pair of Denon AH-D5000 headphones, and using the passive mod for normal Hi-Fi listening. Since something is wrong...
Has anyone else discovered that their power button on their dac now has no effect when using this mod?
Ha ha, Mine did the same thing also.
Might sound stupid, but Stan, are you sure the photo above it correct?
Hi Marco,
Unfortunately I have not been able to progress any more on the case yet. I have 90% of the parts sitting here waiting to be assembled.
All I really need to get going is the front and...
Just finished the mod, as seem below:

I have used the variable output as the chosen output.
Have yet to listen to the difference it has...
How has I missed this thread?
I am going to, right now, dig out my soldering iron and some spare caps and give this mod a go.
Just have to decide which caps to go with.
Bi-polar...
With any luck there will be some more updates in the next coming months or so.
Watch this space... :)
The Rubycon's are the only non-polarized ones, the Elna's are standard polarized ones.
Give it a try and see for yourself what all of the hype is about :eyebrows:
Ha ha, that reminds me. Did you get the caps ok then?
Any noticeable improvements?
As an added note, I put a small piece of shrunk heat shrink on each of the legs on the 220uF and 100uF cap to ensure they did not short on anything else.
If you look very carefully in the above...
I wonder if there will ever be a day when it is not possible to get any more performance out of the Beresford DAC's?
I swear i bought that extra 4.7uF cap of the same model and make from hi-fi collective a little while back. Maybe I ordered the wrong one again or forgot I bought another model from the Elna.
I...
Why thank you :)
All of the parts minus the cable were sources from http://www.hificollective.co.uk/
Given the success of the modification made to my Caiman DAC, and the general feedback from people regarding upgraded Crossover caps. I decided to take on another small project.
Completely...
My pleasure :), just reporting my findings.
Have you had a chance perform any listening tests yet?
I had initially planned too yes, however i ordered a 0.47uf cap instead of a 4.7uf one so haven't as of yet.
Ok Stan, whats your address and I'll post you some. :)
I have about 16 left I think. Would you like me to send you some?
I'm glad it wasn't just me who noticed a nice improvement then :)
Any news on other peoples experience with the latest mod?
I noticed this too. Perhaps one of them is an older version and the other a newer one. I bought my Caiman (the bottom one in the post above) November last year so could be a newer version....maybe.
...
I think this might just be possible when my Re-Case project is all finished....:eyebrows:
The only real reason for me is that Blackgate caps are becoming harder to find since they have gone out of business. Elna caps are generally considered to be of similar quality and still being...
