Hi Rob
I can only give my findings with a Nap 250 which has had the full Avondale treatment, there just wasn't enough gain when used with the Caiman, the sound was good but not loud enough to...
I am using the A500 with a first gen Caiman with the Gator board mod, I also have a Caiman Seg which works equally well , speakers used have been Tannoy Cheviots, Kef Reference 3 and now Dynaudio...
If you go for a pro power amp, they usually come with gain controls you can set to suit your output, only problem I had was trying to use a naim power amp with a Caiman, couldn't get enough gain so...
You have PM
I'll have them please, I'll PM you and we can sort out the details.
Regards
Jim
I am using a 10m USB cable with no repeater and it works fine, bought it for peanuts on ebay, less than a fiver, the industry standard limit is 5m for USB but I've had no issues.
I'll have this please Ash, will PM you regarding details.
Have a bump for a pair of wonderful speakers, got a pair cheap and am staggered how good they are, mine are in a worse state but def wouldn't part with them.
Crikey! they crammed a lot into those B&O speakers.
Hi TAD
I would welcome your findings with the new Caiman SEG, I have a gatorised Caiman and am thinking of the SEG myself (once I get the power amp side of things sorted).
On the power amp side...
I actually have two of them and both are goosed, a mate who is an ex TV repair guy tried to fix one by installing new transistors but that failed to repair the problem, someone to have a look at them...
Thanks for the replies, keep them coming, the A500 has power in spades, but not as musical to me as other amps tried, I used an Amptastic Mini-1 as the power amp for a while and it is remarkably good...
I'm using a Caiman as DAC and PRE, what power amps are you using please ?, I have a pair of Tannoy Cheviots and was previously using a pro mosfet 100w studio amp which sounded great.
Unfortunately...
Thanks Grant
It was nice to meet you, due to feeling ruff when I got home and my granddaughter going to bed early not much listening done.
Will give it a good session today and report back.
Hi
I am interested, I'm in Dundee, any plans for travel near me ? or would you consider a half-way meet.
Dagnab it!, that's the second one I've missed :)
Hi Dave
That's a great offer and I'm in no hurry, please feel free to contact me when you are ready and are still thinking of selling.
Many Thanks
Jim
Hope it works out for you Tony, I still intend to try one at some point.
twotone you just beat me to it, I'll still have it if you don't.
I'll have it please, will PM you.
Mediamonkey would be an option, I ran it on an old 486 PC with no probs, both Itunes and Spotify are using lossy files.
This is not really my bag but it does look like a lovely thing.
Crikey, that's a keen price, good luck with the sale, if I was nearer etc.
That looks like it could be a re-badged Philips machine, or is styled very close.
