Hmm, some (not all) voltage out dac chips are not that great. The psu's and filter stages won't help a chip with a compromised internal I/V. Luckily there is a lot of decent chips available now...

Regarding price theres a wide gap between the ES9023 and ES9018 Sabres.
The ES9023 can give pretty good results cheaply in a compact design , the ES9018 has a lot more potential but requires a...
Hi Jerry, I've been quite busy so not had much time to get on the forums. Soon as things settle down a bit I'll be posting more .
The cats fine thanks, we got another one to keep her company :)
You need a more complex output stage and regulation to get the most out of the ES9018, anything less and it can sound fatiquing. Its not just the chip which is expensive but implementation too. ...
Many Happy Returns :)
Thanks all , much appreciated :) The years seem to be getting shorter!
Sorry I've not posted much lately, been busy so not had a lot of free time. Getting itchy fingers so need to get some...
Get well Soon Paul and take it bloody easy for a while!
Some nice tree's, ornaments and pussies:D
We didn't risk putting a tree up this year, it wouldn't last two minutes here with our latest addition kitty, the little s**t :mental:
As you can see the tracks that need cutting in the 7520 are quite thin, it would be a very delicate job. You may get reliability problems.

Padding resistors on the pcb lines would certainly make this mod far more easier to try. Get a BM Dave and give it a go ;) be easier than bodging the caiman or trying to knock something up on a...
It should be possible but risky , as Stan already mentioned it requires some bodging. If you run your caiman with passive output i'd be tempted to knock a wm8716 up on one of those converter boards...
Exactly! the design is as important as the components used.
Had a few people ask if i'd tried the pcm5102 dac chip, it was new to me but after a quick search around it seems they are becoming popular. Anyway I had a look at the datasheet, not the...
These are lovely bits of kit! Modded they have so much potential making a fine transport.
I've still got a PD-S904 in the loft somewhere, not as well built as these but perform well after some...
Must admit I'm surprised nobody got the itch to have a fiddle yet . You could be right though Stan, maybe more interest when the cold nights are here :) nothing better than trying a few tweaks.
Sorry its late :o Many Happy Returns
Going by the description of the upgrades it looks like its from that fidelityaudio place.
Thanks Andy, we just arrived, I'm currently sat looking at the Abbey through the balcony doors of the place we are staying.
I'm using the little netbook so will add a pic later if I remember :) ...
:lolsign:
It did ;)
Some of the advertising shite online always gives me a laugh, some of it makes you want to cringe reading it :D
We are not going to let the world know how we designed ours, as all the other 'me-too' manufacturers will simply copy us. We put a lot of time and effort into our PSU's and we think we deserve some...
We need to see innards, it may surprise us :D
Great pics ! Were going to Whitby this weekend
The 1210 has lots of potential , the main build, drive circuitry etc of the deck is extremely good for the price. Like most commercial gear the psu has been skimped on which isn't a big problem...
I'm looking forward to reading Neils write up, its always good to read others experiences with any upgrades you've tried especially when they get chance to compare alternative types.
I've tried a...
