Agreed. I'm certainly not comfortable doing these kinds of modifications yet. Well said on this one, Mike.

I kind of wondered about that myself, given that most other comments on the stock bearing have only really been critical of the thrust plate smoothness and the tendency for oil to not stay in the...
Here's a way of getting the same point across without coming across as petty:
"There is a flaw in the design of X. The brass insert will eventually begin to wear, as is common to that type of...
*snort* This would almost be funny if it weren't so sad.
Your product may well be the best available, Mike. I had always assumed that it was. Many people simply cannot afford it, so a less...
LMAO! Jesus, you're thin-skinned.
Hardly upset. Your success or not means nothing to me.
I just find it embarrassing seeing a supposed professional so easily threatened by a diy project that they need to inject no-so-subtle digs...
You know, instead of passive-aggressively whining about someone else's efforts to serve a different price point, maybe you should just let the product and satisfied customers speak for themselves....
I used a Sumiko when I still used the stock arm and a DL-110. Nice match. Probably shouldn't go much heavier than that, though.
I was ready to buy one until I found out that the guy who made them passed away. :(
No, the recommended use of the wax is to soften it enough with a hair dryer that it has just enough play to squish when you push the bearing plate into it. You don't want it to liquify....
If sticking with the stock arm, the fluid damper is essential. Probably a rewire as well, though I never tried that.
@337alant could you describe why you liked one over the other? Were you using the same cartridge on both decks? Keep in mind also that the deck itself can have a significant effect on the results, so...
Good to know that the more common Rega armboards work just fine with the Terminator.
Did SoundSmith do a rebuild on an existing 6800, or was it a full custom assembly ala Jico? Also, do compliance...
Cool info, WOStantonCS100! Do you use the Terminator on a Technics 1200? I've been curious about how that pairing would work. I'm guessing not too different from how the Audiomods works on it (ie:...
I have indeed seen and considered that mod. What concerns me is that it's irreversible. If I didn't like it, I couldn't undo it. I'd bought a used Gingko Cloud a while back that had been modded with...
And now a $1000 plumbing bill, with the spectre of another $1000+ in a few months. Yeah, "just buy one" doesn't really work right now. :( I'd gladly help with listening tests, audio file editing,...
I'd certainly be curious to give it a try, though I'd need to figure out a thin mat to use on top of the Isoplat mat. Maybe the piece of leather that I've been using as a platter cover. That being...
That may be one of the most helpful responses I've gotten from a number of sites on this subject, thank you. Is it your assertion that the KAB regulator mod alone would provide noticeable...
On the other side of the equation, I am also in the Philly area, and currently have a Technics with Isonoe feet, Achromat, and Audiomods Classic arm that I've been experimenting with. I'm also...
Just to be clear that I'm not just being lazy, cheap, and asking for something that I would not be willing to do myself if funds allowed, here's a thread where I shared matching recordings from both...
FWIW, I've been doing an experiment trying to get the Technics to sound as good as my Michell TecnoDec. Several hundred dollars into the experiment, and money has dried up, while also not yet...
Anyone able to provide stock vs. mod bearing recordings to help those of us struggling with indecision and financial concerns? Some actual evidence of the changes would be a tremendous help.
Interesting... Are those Vibro-Stop mats solid acrylic, or do they seem to be the hard foam consistency of the Achromat? In other words, is it kind of lightweight foamboard with bubble holes visible...
@Jeff if you can do some before and after digital recordings (ie: bearing swap only) it would be a huge help. I'm on the fence purely due to doubts that further investment in the Technics will get me...
I don't remember if there are rules against external links, but I got my Isonoes from Analogue Seduction. You pay shipping, but you don't pay VAT. Substantially less than current US list prices at...
