If you have not already done so then get the appropriate manuals from Vinylengine
The Peter Swain Lp12 setup guides will be a good reference though they also cover LP12 builds that have moved on since the early LP12/RD11 days.

Access to the suspension is from underneath.
There will probably be a date stamp on the plinth (probably made by Victor Hallam) inside which will help to date it but it will probably be late 73...
There is an even earlier "early start" option for public admission this time.
Trying to figure out how to avoid Dick Turpin if I go next week!
In my system I have a Kinshaw Perception pre amp to go along with 2 Kinshaw Perception SA phono stages.
Also use a Nakamichi CA5E as both a phono stage and second pre amp.
My power amp is a Lumley...

Do you have any of the 70 to 72 yearbooks? I have the 73 and 74 books but there is something that may or may not be in the early 70 books I need to establish.
The audio section on the American Radio History site is a very useful resource.
The early AR turntables have their admirers and this thread at Audiokarma is good starting point

For AR XA/TAs there are 3 basic approaches.
1. Go with the existing arm - the main weakness is the headshell which is made of brittle plastic and the threads are prone to stripping if over...
There is an active thread on Audiokarma which I have been watching with awe and which you may find interesting.

To some extent it will depend on the quality you wish to achieve.
Cheap external USB stages are out there. I have used a cheap external SoundBlaster phono/ADC in the past. Maplin also did one...
It can be very effective but is fussy to do and usually needs to be left over night to dry. I have also used commercial products in the past that use a similar approach though the PVA glue is cheaper...
I assume you already have a cartridge running on the deck. Was it worn out or do you just fancy a change?
A passing resemblance but much more sinister looking and a larger gun.
No - I once had a BSR when I was at School so pretty sure it is not one of those. The automatic controls are quirky so there is a chance it contains components borrowed from a Strathearn.
I put a...
I went - not much of interest to me but did come away with a "cheap?" Sony PS-X7 to add to my TT collection and justify the journey. Got it from a dodgy looking seller close to the entrance. :)

My post was meant for Paul - there is often a honeymoon period with cartridge changes and I find that several weeks evaluation is needed to confirm there are no negatives that will eventually detract...
While I have been reluctant to spend huge money on cartridges I have found a pattern that the best results for me tend to be with MC's. However I would advise you give yourself a couple of months...
I have the relatively cheap AT-F7 mc on my Lp12/Ekos which I like. I did not get on very well with a more expensive MC on the same deck so the AT-F7 was an experiment that worked quite well for me.

Out of interest which SAS stylus are you using? One specified for Shure cartridges?
I have three original bodied A&R cartridges plus a magnesium bodied version and a now broken Stilton version.

On my original measured just now with a tape measure it is a little over 17mm at the rear arm end and a little over 18mm at the front. The slope seemed to get worse ie around 2+mm with arm installed...
Don't know if it would work here but for AR decks a piece of blu tack on the blunt end of a pencil is the common technique for extracting and replacing delrin thrust washers from the bottom of the...
