Love Orkney - been there, but not in the winter!
Loved it around Scapa Flow, and Kirkwall was a lovely little town. The brochs were also fab, as were all the textile shops (Del has a degree in fashion and textiles, and her own loom, which she weaves fabric on, so she was in heaven!) and the Italian chapel and the Standing Stones of Stenness.
One of my abiding memories, however, was of the amazing seafood - probably the best I've tasted anywhere in the world!!

I used to live at the Bay of Skaill and Finstown, i did my last years of school on Orkney, a great place to visit but a bad place to be out of work and bleak as hell in the winter
Can't remember if we visited there or not. I've been trying to remember where we stayed when we were there. It was in a really nice country house hotel, near the beach, somewhere north of Kirkwall, if I remember.
Any ideas?
Bleak actually doesn't really bother me, as I find such weather conditions 'atmospheric'. As long as I'm inside in front of a nice roaring log fire, candles lit, and with a bottle of malt and some nice munchies (and Del) beside me, I couldn't give a flying f*ck what the weather was like outside! ;)

Me too. So many people moan about our lovely temperate weather. When they go on about it being effin' cold I just say it's wonderfully bracing or some such flippant remark ;)
Indeed - I don't think that I could handle living in a climate where one was baking in the sun for nearly 365 days of the year. I like to experience different weather conditions, and watch how the colours of the landscape change accordingly...
Oh, and at least we're safe from earthquakes and such like! No, there's a lot to be said for the good old British weather! :)

Ahh summer I rember as if we're yesterday, in fact it was...just the one day in the year lol
Marco I will have you know that there is nothing better than the sweet feel of a silk stocking against ones plums.
Don't I know it, girlfriend! :eyebrows:Quote:
