Album Club, December 2016: Mogwai - Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will.
I'd been aware of Mogwai since the mid 90's but never listened to them until I saw them perform this album headlining at End of the Road Festival in 2011. I was hooked. A monumental live act. Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will was probably their most immediate record to date. The vocals remain few and far between, relying on the music to do the talking. Songs are shorter and snappier. But still retain the dynamic shifts from quiet to loud, the melodic bass and distorted guitars. Overall a terrific record but my highlights if pushed are 'White Noise', 'Rano Pano', 'Too Raging To Cheers' and 'You're Lionel Richie'
Nice one - Another one I will look forward to listening to - I was also at that gig at End of the Road in 2011. I was a bit disappointed with the sound of everything at EOTR but they are an amazing band to catch live. I also saw them at Glastonbury last year and that was stunning.
I'm only familiar with the earlier albums - Young Team, Come on die young and Rock action which I love. I lost my way with them a bit after Happy songs for happy people, although I picked up again with Rave tapes which is ace and I bought Atomic (though haven't listened to that much yet either).
It'll be good to go back and fill in some gaps on your recommendation.

Kings of distorted guitar riffs with melody. I'm much like Lovejoy above and familiar with the early stuff.
I lost interest as it all got a bit samey.
This is sounding good after the first play, however. It will get more plays:)
I spent an evening in a recording studio with a guitar player from a Mogwai inspired band, trying to get something to work. He couldn't drum so he had to be left to guitar duties. There was no choice:D

Finally a day off to spend a bit time catching up on album club. Yes I enjoyed this. A solid 7 for me, could have been higher but the production values let it down. Sounded hard as a bag of nails on my gear and my current set up is anything but hard sounding normally.
Still I enjoyed the music. Have one of their other albums 'Mr Beast' in my collection. I'ok revisit that one to see how it compares.

So far, so good..
The best I have heard so far, I actually listened all through 😊
A few pleasant tunes but alas none that I really I would listen to in the long term.
