TVs between speakers, flat v curved?

I'm considering a new TV, a recent speaker upgrade has left my 42" plasma looking a little diminutive...please refer to attached image :eyebrows:

I've heard it mentioned that it's not the best practice to have a TV between ones speakers, however it's pretty damned essential from an AV point of view ;)

One option these days is a curved TV panel, would a curved TV screen be less detrimental to SQ? :scratch:

Curved screens look great. No idea about impact on SQ!

More an issue with CRT TVs as they were huge. As long as the TV is behind the front axis of the speakers there should be no issues.

After a bit of trawling the web looks like the consensus of opinion matches yours Neil, if the curve were convex as opposed to concave it might help, but would be rubbish to watch, I'd imagine... unless after a recreational cigarette or two ;)

I'd rather go for flat, but wondered if there'd be any acoustic benefit with a curved one...my screen will be about 6 inches behind the back of the speakers so should be fine...:)

I think flat is probably better than curved, because the ends of the curve stick up, but I can't say this is defo an issue because my TV is flat, and have no experience of a curved set. The back of my speakers are level with the front of the screen.

Can't comment on flat or curved except the curved screens are very expensive :( my telly is between and just behind and above all speakers. It may be worth considering a new tv stand that raises your tv......loads on ebay and not bad prices see mine :) :)

I'm thinking about a 65"er, which would either mean keeping it low or living in the dark...;)

Hence my concern as 65" would neatly fit the gap between the speakers, at the same height, albeit 6" behind them, but there'd only be 3 to 4" between the speaker and TV edges in that event... :scratch:

Shouldn't matter Will, as Neil says as long as its behid the front plane of the speakers your good to go.
No problems with my 60" between my speakers, though ideally I'd have liked it mounted lower on the wall.

The system rack between my speakers (another argument entirely...:)) meant the telly had to go higher up.

Just spotted your reply Gaz, in the end I went with a flat 55" panasonic CX802, last years flagship at less than half price! :D

On reflection 65" would have been too much...:doh:
