Hello.
I was arranging taking my new (to me, obvs) Tascam 388 to Service Sound in Bexhill for 'the works' and mentioned to Geoff that I was selling my Studer B62 to get something more in a price range fitting my lowly compositions  , like a Revox B77 or PR99, and instead he's offered me the above reel to reel for £500. Obviously it's going to be completely overhauled. It's a quarter track but he's going to put half track heads on. It's 7.5ips, altho he can make it 15 if I want...but the music I make is pretty bass heavy so 7.5 is probably no bad thing. It comes with the built-in amp and speakers.
My question is the price - no quibble about the value of the work that'll be done to the machine by who I understand is one of the best in the bizz. My only concern is its resale value. For one reason or another, I tend to swap equipment relatively regularly. Obviously I'm planning on having it around for a long time but...stuff changes. If I should need or want to sell it, will I get something like the 500 back for it? All google searches show them going for not much cash. What are the general opinions of these machines?
Thanks.
