Aww... You can't beat some classic AoS thread drift, especially when the discussion becomes emotive, moves away from hi-fi, and into what *really* makes folks 'tick'!! ;)

Well I was going to post the same a long time ago - but wasn't sure what constituted "high-end". A figure of £50K has been mentioned. Is that for a single source system? Are those current prices?
At the moment 100% of my system comprises used gear, some of which is 45 years old. To date I have probably spent around £10K, so do I qualify (not that I really care)?
How much have you spent on fine wine, since you were old enough to buy it, compared with hi-fi? ;)
As for myself, I dread to think!!

See, I can sort of get Amazon or Google's tax-dodging, but what I can't get is tax dodging a-la Starbucks when you have significant bricks and mortar, with UK footfall! Shows how loose our laws really are, and more disturbingly props up this idea of "the City" - basically a tax haven thinly disguised.
A lot less than that! It is only within the last ten years or so, that I have happily spent £10 - £20 on a bottle of wine.
But then some might spend £50K or more on a classic sports car, or a painting or a piece of sculpture.
Ah I see, I thought you'd been a 'wine-o' for rather longer... For me, it's more like the last 25 years... Could've had myself a lovely pair of TADs by now, instead of my ancient big 'ol wardrobes' - or maybe even a 'decent' CD player, in order to properly rubber-stamp my 'high-end audio' user credentials! :D

The 'high end' of my system is on the shelf. The 'low end' sits on the floor! :D
