This morning
This morning
Superb, Andre - bring it on everyone! :)
Who's having it the worst (or best, depending on how you look at it)?
Marco.
Already posted mine but I'll put it here too. Been unable to get to work at all this week so far. :(
Nice one, dude. Any chance, chaps, we can have them show automatically as 'full-size' pics (640 x 480 for message boards) instead of thumbnails?
Cheers! :)
Marco.
We have less than "diddly squat" on the snow front down here. :(
Dunno how to do that Marco.
Select the option in Imageshack or Photobucket for 'resizing for message boards', rather than showing it as a thumbnail, before uploading the pics from your hard drive. You will simply be given a different forum code to post.
I presume you are hosting your images through an appropriate site, rather than simply uploading them directly from your hard drive onto the forum?
Or if you want, I can sort out the pics for you :)
Marco.
No,I was just taking them with my phone and emailing them to my computer.
Ah - that's your problem... You need to import them from your phone onto the hard drive of your computer, then host them through the likes of Photobucket or Imageshack.
Do you know how to do that? If not find out.
If you look here at the Imageshack site, you'll see what I'm talking about:
http://imageshack.us/
When you've done all of the above, you simply click on the 'Browse' button, and a window will pop up showing you all the pics stored on your hard drive.
Simply select the ones you want to use, and then click on 'Open'. Then where it says: 'Image Options, Resizing' on the Imageshack window, select '640 x 480 for message boards'. Then where it says: 'Add Label to Thumbnail?' in a drop-down window, select 'no'.
Then click on the big blue 'Upload Now' button.
After a few secs, a page will appear which shows various URL codes. Look down the list until you see 'Forum Code', then simply copy and paste the full URL code shown there in brackets onto the reply box here, on whatever thread you want, and submit that code along with any text you're sending.
Simples! You'll get much better results with your pics that way :)
Marco.
P.S Andre, that also applies to you! ;)
Helsinki last week. Note the under pavement heating, piped from the underground parking tunnels. Now that's having your act together!

Gosh it looks so lovely, dark and Christmassy there - I LOVE it!! :) :)
It's the glow of the lights in streets and shop windows against the gloom of the night sky, and how the snowy streets, trees and buildings sets all that off so picturesquely, that does it for me. Even though it no doubt feels bitterly cold being there, its somehow also 'cosy'. Especially when you're wrapped up in nice warm clothes!
Dunno, if you know what I mean?
That's one of the main reasons why we love Austria so much. The beautiful quaint and secluded little snow-capped mountain villages are simply wonderful!! You find some amazing little hotels, pubs and restaurants, that serve the most amazing food imaginable in places like that, which are miles off the beaten track and well away from the tourist trap. Getting away from it all like that is what we love to do.
Did you have a good time in Helsinki?
Marco.
Weird Steve,I don't see the pic.
Not sure I want to be known as "Weird Steve"...
Could be because I posted them differently. I didn't know how you made the thumbnails so I uploaded the images into a personal user album and pasted the URLs.
Must work 'cos Marco has seen them.
Works for me using Internet Explorer. I must have special secret-agent powers! :)
Marco.
This was on the Austrian / Italian border in the Alps. Pretty treacherous in the snow on a bike, fully loaded for touring with Val. Then in the space of 5 minutes the cloud came down...

http://theartofsound.net/forum/pictu...&pictureid=382
...and this was the descent. Efectively, done blind in the cloud fog. Clean knickers were needed ;)
Obviously I was a wee bit too occupied to take piccies at the time. If we'd known what we were facing, not sure we'd have attempted it. This photo was taken on a second run in the sun. Brilliant!

I'm using IE too.
Sorted - I think; I made the album private, which meant that only admin could see it. Sorry Marco, no special powers today.
Is that OK now?
To be more precise, I pasted the BB code directly into the main body of text. Is this a valid method? It's certainly easier than all that Imageshack malarky, which I struggle with to be honest and does limit the photos that I would otherwise post more often. Probably only works with the limited file sizes from my phone.
Are you going to try posting your pics the way I said, Ali? :)Quote:
I'm using IE too.
Here's your earlier picture in all it's glory, adjusted via the wonders of Imageshack:

Steve, awesome stuff there in Austria! Have you ever been around the Salzburg area, near Zell am See? It's utterly gorgeous there.
Marco.
Yep see them now Steve.Marco,I'll post tomorrow's via imageshack.
Top man. It's not so much having to post them through Imageshack; merely that however you do it, that they don't appear as just thumbnails.
Steve didn't use Imageshack, yet his pics have appeared 'full-size' :)
Marco.
This is mine this morning and now, still snowing very lightly but we are in for a lot tonight by all accounts

Helsinki is one of my favourite cities. It's comparatively small and compact for a capital, very refined, safe and friendly with about 300 excellent restaurants.
I like cities with trams also, that seems to lend old world charm to even Milano!
It was minus 3 degrees last week but you don't feel it with a few glasses of antifreeze inside :glug: Fur coat AND fur knickers is the key.
We rode through Austria both ways and although pretty, we prefer the Italian side of the Alps, for all the reasons you mention - and then some!
I will be eternally grateful to the Austrians for Gewurztraminer though.
And one without flash, mental note don't go out in the snow with Crocs on as they act like snow hoovers
http://i419.photobucket.com/albums/p...1/DSC_0277.jpg
Crikey Jon the windows on your Disco are well frozen! ;)
See avatar for my best snow picture. We've got off pretty lightly this year, so far - about 2".
That's an Aol thing, dude. It happens to me, too, which is when I swap over to Internet Explorer, and the problem disappears ;)
Ok, keep the snowy pics coming, folks, particularly those taken when you're out and about - I wanna see some snowy roads and traffic jams! :)
Marco.
8.15 this morning. The car was cleaned of snow yesterday.
http://img829.imageshack.us/img829/7045/winter50.jpg
Way.....you used Imageshack! Not difficult is it, dude? :)
You should delete the 'Uploaded with Imageshack' tag which appears as the second URL code you'll see when you paste the code from Imageshack into the reply box on the forum. I've done it for you this time.
Snow-wise, it's madness where you are just now. I'm going up to Glasgow in a couple of weeks, so I hope the snow will have cleared by then - if not, I'll be going nowhere!
Marco.
We havn't ventured out yet but we have had nearly a foot of snow over night and its still snowing
http://i419.photobucket.com/albums/p...1/P1000506.jpg
Still not as bad as you lot up North, but we've had about another 3" over night:
The uphill was impassible by most cars until the gritter came about an hour ago...
http://i653.photobucket.com/albums/u...jpg?1291286583
My wife's car, which she came home in last night, and was snow-free when she parked. Had to clear the drive again and the path so she could go to work. (No such worries for me, Maggie the Landrover 110 copes with anything to take little 'un to Nanny's, and then I'm working from home - decided a 250 mile round trip in a draughty and slow Landrover whilst doable, is not much fun compared to sitting in the warm playing records!)
http://i653.photobucket.com/albums/u...jpg?1291286512
Still snowing, reckon we've had about 6" in total since it all kicked off - the snowman's face is pretty much obliterated now, but here's a couple from Tuesday - first, Avatar ready for action...
http://i653.photobucket.com/albums/u...jpg?1291287140
...and then giving the snowman a kiss! She'll be heartbroken when he melts! :(
http://i653.photobucket.com/albums/u...jpg?1291287256
Simular layout to ours, road at the front nothing over the road!..Well i've gotta go to work this afternoon, so it's walking there & back..Just hope it don't end like the back of the 'Shining' movie for me :lolsign:
Hehehe... That's one of my fav films of all time!
Alex - that is seriously cute :)
Marco.
Well, my bit of Devon has had sun, blue skies and fluffy clouds on the horizon for about a week now, but this morning we woke up to nearly half an inch of snow. With a bit of effort, I even managed to find a slightly slippery road to play on!
Alex, haha - indeed!
Shane, lucky you (in terms of not having the inconvenience attached with travelling in snowy conditions), but unlucky you for not having the beautiful snowy scenery to look at, such as others and I are enjoying.
From a photographic point of view, I find wintery landscapes much more interesting and intriguing than blue skies and fluffy clouds - don't you? :)
Keep the pics coming, folks. I'd like to see some of snowy motorway traffic jams from anyone who's been caught in them. So get the cameras on those mobile phones out and start clicking. It'll give you something to do while you're sat there going nowhere! ;)
Marco.
No pics from me - what snow we've had isn't worth mentioning.
I'm proud of these icicles, i had to snap a few off to get through the door to my office, 32 inches long one of them
http://i419.photobucket.com/albums/p...1/DSC_0278.jpg
Fantastic stuff, Jon - Del and I both LOVE icicles!
We've got some hand-made glass ones hanging up around the house, and will be putting more up as part of our Christmas decorations :)
Marco.
A bit crap, compared to other examples here (as the snow is disappearing in Wrexham), but this is Marco towers as of two hours ago:

Marco.
"Maggie" has earned her keep this week, our road is pretty clear now but a lot of the smaller ones are still covered in compacted snow which has now frozen solid - very slippy, even with a Landy and off-road tyres.
http://i653.photobucket.com/albums/u...jpg?1291399158
Certainly well looked after your Maggie, my old disco is the only that has left our household this week after the snow came, mostly running kids about plus a trip to Sainsburys with the mother-inlaw in the boot where she belongs ;)
Just watch out for the owners  & don't forget about "the people that live under the stairs" :mental:

Hehehehe... I'd tell you were my special secret dungeon (not the one behind the little white door) is located, but then I'd have to kill you! :eyebrows:
Marco.
 :lolsign:
I must agree with Andr'e though, that's a rather nice house :) Plenty of distance from the neighbours as well Attachment 3125
I take it your listening room is on the 1st floor? Going by previous pics of your setup it's the conclusion i came to (sloped roof)... Actually that my not be the case looking again
Apologies for going :offtopic:
Lol.... It's small but does us nicely, although the grounds and garden are pretty big. There's plenty of room for a marquee on our front lawn and parking for about 10 cars at the back! ;)
Yes, the lack of neighbours is a major bonus. It's not uncommon for us to have listening sessions when the crew are round still going on (LOUDLY) until 3-4am! :eyebrows:
We've been doing it up inside gradually (you know how long it takes to get round to these things...) and completed the 'bathroom project' this year. It was a real ballache to do, as it was painfully dated before, and not in a nice way, but I think it's turned out ok:
http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/1964/img0003jy.jpg
We both love black & white, as it's clean & fresh, and the overall look combines traditional features with contemporary design.
Oh, I should add that Del and I designed it ourselves :)
Next is the kitchen, which will be an even bigger job than the bathroom! :mental:
Marco.
P.S The disabled bog seat is for Del's dad, whom we look after at home.
I must say i really do like it :eyebrows:
It's elegant & i think i see what you mean about the B/W, the chrome finish & wood as well have some appeal & together it looks great ;)
Bloody AoS thread drift :D
Back to it
Let it snow, let it snow , let it snow....Attachment 3126
very nice Marco, i do like proper bogs and the old overhead flush system, there's some sort of "job well done" when you pull the chain
