The standard York box was a corner format they introduced the rectangular version later.
It's a great box for the 15 Monitor Gold but it really needs to be more substantially built.

Short answer is they used EQ to compensate. Interesting.
The bass cancellation? Not sure that were bothered about that: only skimmed the article but seems they just used them as sound reinforcement for the vocals. He didn't want a 'boxy' colouration being added. Could you not use a bit of EQ just to flatten them out across the mid range for that purpose?
Regardless what us Armchair Audio weenies may think.
These obviously did what they wanted them to do.
First photo of the drivers in their 'Cradles' clearly suggested there was serious work and thought involved..

The chassis look very much a departure from usual Tannoy designs, and quite modern in that they are very cut down, which is done to reduce mid reflection from the frame.
The magnet also appears to be smaller than, from memory, the usual size they would use, although of course many were covered with a pot.
My instinct is that the drivers are a serious attempt at a solution to something.
