Nice warm glow, looks lovely apart from the hair :)
Dusted it, I cant stand hairs on things.

What you buying now mate :)
The glowey things in the pics Brian :)
New set of 300Bs
I thought 300Bs had glass envelopes which were tapered and had 'shoulders' at the top. The ones you show in your photo look far more sexy (not that should make any difference to the sound!). :)
Elrog?
Aye Ali, the Elrogs.
Should bring out what Nicks amp is really capable of.
That's the plan anyways :)
I'd never heard of them.... interesting though! http://www.hifistatement.net/feuille...-schaffernicht
Yes indeed, an interesting take on the 300b - with thoriated tungsten filaments..
The boy does like his black. :D. Interesting to see if you think them a big improvement.... Cant beat Telefunken lol
Need to get you over Grant... :)
couple of changes since last time.
Aye , just a few :D
Ouch.
Elrogs are made on Telefunken machinery & some of the same staff
excellent valves but £1000+ for a pair new
Superb sound & heard them several times in Mayer £300k amps driving £300k Wolf field coil speakers

:D
Should be here next week...
Elrog 300Bs in the house...
Letting amp cool down so I can swap the valves over.
Update with pics to follow.
Thomas Meyer is ELROG now.
 :D
I figure they've blown already...:D;)
Not with the SET amp I've got they wont! :)
Read all about the issues the initial batch had...was down to bad current inrush on certain "Frankenstein" valve amps bringing out the worse of the thinner filament wire needed for thoriated tungsten filaments to meet WE 300B spec.
Elrog beefed up production on the second and ongoing production runs, my valves were manufactured a couple of months ago too.
Also, the amp has a "soft start" circuit meaning theres no current inrush switching it on...takes about 20 secs for the heater supply to build up full voltage to the 300Bs.
All good.
First impression?
Major recallibration of whats possible from an amplifier, certainly in what I've heard before.
Seriously.
Holy hell...and that's the valves fresh out the packet.
Now Im hearing what it can REALLY do... Nick sure does make exceedingly nice SET amps.
Some major league synergy going on, genuinely a massive jump from the EH Gold grids I had in before.
Will enjoy them running in.
Pics!
Send them to me and I'll stuff them in my Lampizator.;)
The ELROG 211s defo sound great in an Audio Note Tomei.
Another very, very good valve is the KR 300B. Great in my Lampi. Gonna try their PX4.
Top notch valves transform valve amps. They really do. Take them from not good to flippin' fab in some cases.
Yep KR's are great.
Tommorow guys sorry.
Up at 5 this morning for work, cream crackered.
Put some pics up tommorow.
There's a 5 o'clock in the morning now?

S'all good. :)
So...
Happy to see I don't have a useless exotic wood box to find a use for and value put where it belongs!
Much rather have a fully detailed test certificate for matching bias current and plate curves...

Size comparison, a fair bit bigger than a traditional 300B?

So now I've finnaly blagged a pair and they are here, will enjoy the next couple of weeks and see what the valves do for the systems sound.
Next few weeks will be interesting, been my experience that new valves take some time to fully burn in and even fresh out the packet they have transformed the amp.
Good listening session last night and I'm noticing the top end opening up a bit more...
Look great mate, nice glow from the thoriated tungsten filaments. Looking forward to a listen to these.
Very pretty things Gary..:D
That amp has the same on/off switch as a Lampizator.
Looks great, love copper tops.
