Looks like a very capable system, loads of space around the speakers too. Like that.
Couldn't live with that yellow wall though ;)

Had a little change to the system.
Out goes the Bel Canto DAC2.5, and in comes a Bel Canto DAC 3.5mkIIvb & VBS (with Tony @ Coherent systems mods) & Coherent Reference DC cable.
I must say its made quite a difference, and is sounding fantastic.
Some of you will be wondering why i have an extra vbs, thats because my CD2 is powered by a VBL which only has one output,
so had to get the VBS to power the DAC, and it has Tonys modifications :)

fabulous , now all you need is a pre amp !!! .
I bought one of these for peanuts. It sounds surprisingly good. Decently made too. It even arrived pretty quickly from China. Might tide you over for now.
This maybe a daft question,
but what does a passive pre amp bring to the party ?.
There is no active circuit to modify the signal, the passive pre as far as i can see just adds resistors, and more cable, and connections in the signal path.
It puts less in the signal path than an active pre-amp.
Most are potentiometer based and may offer input selection and volume control. Some just volume control only. There are more complex types that employ stepped attenuators. LDR and TVC examples also exist, although the TVC pre-amps usually offer some gain.
So on a passive pre what is the benefit of having one, than not having one ?.
As without one there is less in the signal path ?.
