View Full Version : Technics 1200 and the Jelco 10" arm?

I last posted quite a while back asking advice and got lots of great counsel on using a Zu Denon with the standard Technics arm. I've been using this combination with satisfaction, and had not considered switching the arm out (yet) until I read about the Jelco 750E - a 10" version of the Jelco arm. Has anyone tried this arm with a Techie? I'm not sure it would be a good fit, even with appropriate mounting plate.

Come on all the Jelco Jockeys! Can't anyone help Trey out?

Hi Trey,

I haven't tried the 10" Jelco on my Techie, so can't really comment, but if the geometry is right, then your Zu-modified 103 should work very well with it.

The best person to ask here is Nick (Scoobs), as I believe he's used the 10" Jelco and/or a 10" Denon tonearm (and nuded 103) on his Techie with good results.

Perhaps PM him? :)

Marco.

I did try to pm you, but something went wrong.
...anyhow.

I used a 750e with my denon on a custom plinth, so there was ample room for it, however the standard aftermarket jelco / technics 1210 armplate will not accomodate the 750e on your 1210, you would have to somehow customise one.

Alternatively I would drop the techie for the Pioneer PL-50L2 on ebay, this will enable you to leapfrog all the upgrade headaches of the 1210 and settle on a classic vintage deck with a killer 10" arm as standard that makes the Jelco look and sound somewhat bereft. No need to mod these puppies, they are sorted from footer to mat, rest assured.

...until it brakes and it's a 'no can do' to the part that's popped and no longer available! ;)

Only kidding, dude - that's a definitely a valid approach if you can find a Pioneer in suitably good nick. Nice to see you checking in again :)

Marco.

Thanks, scoobs...if I hadn't already committed several expenditures to the Technics, that would certainly be a feasible route. I may just hold off on a new arm. The KAB rewire is holding me steady at the moment.
