There, that wasn't too difficult was it! ;)

Nice set-up. How's the Sony? I don't think I've come across one of those.

Guys (other Admin and Mods),

I think we should set-up some new rules for new members joining. This has nothing to do with you, incidentally, Third. It's something I've been thinking about for a while. By the way what's your first name and where are you from?

The procedure for joining AOS I suggest is now as follows:

1) After registering, new members must post in the welcome area briefly introducing themselves and the system they use and what music they like. First names must be provided along with basic location details such as 'Manchester UK', or whatever.

2) They will then be asked to post pictures of their system, if available, in The Gallery.

3) Everyone must post at least once when joining - no more 'hiders'.

4) Anyone who hasn't complied with the above within, say, 48 hours of joining will have their accounts removed.

I frankly don't see the point in joining a forum if you're not willing to contribute. I'm not happy with people trying just to blend 'anonymously' into the background. It simply raises suspicions of what their intentions are.

I think it makes for a friendlier atmosphere and more of a sense of community if people know more about each other and can draw parallels with similar interests. I just like to know more about whom I'm dealing with.

What do you think, guys? I don't think it's too much to ask. I also welcome feedback from others on this matter.

Marco.

I agree. And we should boot existing members if they don't say 'hello' to a new person at least once in a while :eyebrows:

Seems fair. The audio-talk forum has a system where if new members don't post soon after joining then membership is cancelled.:)

I would think this software has that option, I'll have a dig through at some point and see if I can find the appropriate settings.

my name's is Sean, and i live in andover,
nice part of the world, and near enough civilisation to make shopping easy for the other half

Marco
09-07-2008, 13:01
Thanks for that, Sean :)

Could I ask that you alter your profile details to show that information? As far as your name is concerned you could simply add it to a signature. That way people addressing you can use Sean rather than 'Third' - makes it all so much more 'human'.

Cheers.

Marco.

Nice one. I don't know about you but I'm much more interested in quality than quantity. There's not much point in a forum having, say, 3000 members if only 50 of them are posting regularly. I think this is something we should focus on more.

I will go through the membership list later and send an email to those who have joined but have not posted and explain the new ruling, and give them a certain amount of time to respond before their account is removed. I will also post something to that effect in the Notice Board or add it to your sticky in the Welcome area :)

Do you know if there's any way we could pop a short (condensed) message to that effect in the registration procedure before actually joining the forum so that people know what's expected of them well in advance?

Yes, there is a welcome message option which is automatically sent to a new member's email address. The software setting for the auto membership cancellation is called 'promotions'. It offers a variety of options if a user goes above or below a certain threshold on posts or infractions or points etc etc. I'll have a proper read later on. :)

Marco

We should pop something on there then to the effect I have outlined. Shall I add it to my 'things to do' list or do you wanna add it to yours? :)

Or maybe it would be a good idea if Steve done something for a change! :lolsign:
