View Full Version : "Recessed" digital output socket on Arcam Delta 170 transport?

Bizarre question, but I have just got hold of an original Arcam Delta 170 CD transport. The digital and optical output sockets seem to be recessed inside the machine, i.e., they do not stand proud. There appears no damage, they are attached to secure circuit boards etc. Makes getting a digital coaxial lead with a fat connector on difficult.

Anyone ever have one of these - was this arrangement usual and how does one get over it?

Thanks

Phil

I had a Delta 70.3 which is the player version. The sockets definitely stood proud as they should. Have you had a look inside?

Yes Rob, the socket is attached to a circuit board which appears secure - if I knew how to insert photo I would! All seems a bit odd, but it seems things are in place OK, but I have never come across a socket that is not proud outside machine.

Nor I mate. Maybe the circuit board has been moved at some point, although for what reason is anyone's guess.

On the photo thing, have a read here:

Some things probably got bent a bit (the PCB for the sockets?), but wouldn't worry about it at all, as you'd know if it something sounded wrong. Maybe an ill-fitting interconnect caused woe a while back.

Still, I've a few scatches on my SL1210 that I just can't keep my eyes off ;) :P

Thanks Yomanze, but Mark at Audiocom has confirmed the recessed socket was how it was designed. I have just noticed an old Arcam DAC on ebay with the same style - see http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ARCAM-DELTA-BLACK-BOX-D50-DIGI-ANALOGUE-CONVERTER_W0QQitemZ120269814461QQihZ002QQcategoryZ 122650QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Ahh, that's reassuring for you then :) How strange... must be a reason?

Possibly to sell their own brand of digital interconnects?
