Two weeks ago i rolled the valves in my Icon Audio PS1 and they seem to be comming alive now. Bought a Mullard cv 4024 and two JJ ECC83s and they are a big improvement. Lots of detail and huge soundstage compared with any thing ive used. Dead chuffed. Thinking about their Jenson cap upgrade they offer though i should really spending the little cash ive put away on a RCM

There's many here who go dewy eyed at the sight of a few new, or NOS, valves. They'll have to close their eyes and imagine for the timebeing!

I've just bought about a dozen NOS Mullard, Phillips and Siemens valves from eBay as spares for my valve tuners and to try a little tube 'rolling'.

Photos will be sent under 'plain brown cover'. :eyebrows:

I also have just bought some NOS Mullards for my pre and power amps plus some stunning dark glass NOS Ken Rad 6sn7's and RCA's. I will try to post these with my first ever embedded photos once they are fitted next week.

Hi Nick

I tried to post pictures of my current set up this morning except when I came to view the photobucket upload - it didn't - just a 4 line string. Is this right? It did not show what it would be like even in preview - so I abandoned it. Any advice? Cos I feel like an imposter here being unable to show even my modest system and my latest valve purchases.

How you getting on with your LA4? Nice to see some icon audio stuff on here. I've been fancying some for a while but cant justify it at the mo - but I have not seen a bad review of Icon stuff so looking forward to trying some out in the future for sure!!!

Hi Butuz

I have been using bits of Icon Audio gear for about 4 years, have only praise for their kit. Because it is made in China (So are Quad now and many others) people tend to be rather snobby about it. David Shaw is really helpful and I am so impressed with their service.
LA4 with these Mullards and Ken Rads is so detailed and open. Works a treat with my Croft Series 7, Antique Sound Labs monos and my original AR Classic 60. In fact works with my Quads and Sugden power amps also (Hey but dont tell the purist Mafia!!)

Hi Garry,

Don't forget those of us living amongst the hills and sheep in North Wales (although I'm not Welsh) ;)

I'd bloody love a pair of Icon's EL34 monoblocks even though I am happy with my Croft.

Hey Marco
I see you as bringing religion and sophistication to those 'Gogs' in North Wales. How did you become a missionary??

Hi Shaun
I ve heard the latest Icon Audio MB845's monoblocks and they are truly stunning!!! I also believe that for the money the Icon Audio monoblocks are great value for money. However there is nothing I have heard to touch the Crofts at a third and two thirds of the cost of the Icon monoblocks.
I will be patient and enjoy my modified Croft SMA or Icon pre and the series 7 power for now until I can afford a step up in the power amp department.

Just listen to the music!!;)

The Croft 7R is a big step up from the standard 7...:eyebrows:

Hi David

I have heard both the Croft 7 and 7R and I would not dispute your views. My jaw dropped when I first heard the 7. However when I heard the 7R my chins hit the deck with an almighty thump. They are IMHO the best value for money at their price points. ;)
However I believe the IA MB845's monoblocks are a step beyond the 'R' again. I would like to upgrade to the 'R' next when funds are available. However if I had the room I would eventually like the 845's at some point to drive my modified 57's (currently in store because of space).
I am afraid 'The Feuhrer' gets first call on any spare cash at the moment
