In October 2008, I dismantled my entire system and mains distribution prior to major building works. Whereas my hifi has been up and running for some time, only recently have new carpets, carpentry and support platforms been completed, sufficient to say that 'enough is enough', and no further changes are likely, except to the kit, though I intend to move the amplifiers back to the wall when I get longer I/Cs.

Showing newly built but as yet unpainted record shop style shelving; room for one more bolow, right.

The board that you can see adjacent to the kit holds eight patresses connected to eight dedicated 10mm twin & earth going up and over to the garage.

It has taken virtually eight years, two large building jobs and quite a few hassles to get here. Luckily the carpet and underlay haven't affected the dynamics negatively, although it seemed at first that it had.

Next step, apart from re-routing the tuner and TV cables outside, is upgrading CDP (maybe only with DAC) and/or climbing up the Koetsu ladder.

Sorry, the captions are all over the place ! Believe me, achieving the above computer jiggery-pokery simply wasn't possible without my very patient and more digitally-minded wife. The photos themselves took three goes !!!

I take it you're either single, or have a VERY understanding better half hidden away somewhere.......

I'm stunned that my wife allows the BC2's in the sitting room. She'd LOVE ADM9.1's......

I mean, even our Marco secretes his stereo in an upstairs room with a mystery cupboard behind the speakers for those that dislike them :eyebrows:

Dave, every time my sister comes over, she expresses total disbelief that these could be allowed to dominate the ground floor.

However, HiFi came a long, long time before wives and houses; guess that priority has always been upheld........

I bought my first house in '75 by taking my B & O portable radio to the first floor to ascertain reception strength. It passed the test and I bought the house!

It looks like a listening room to me, Dave...

Very nice place you have there, Mike !
And this fireplace... and the shelves for the LPs (my dream !:stalks:)...

Well done you! A good few of the rest of us are not so lucky... ;)

Thanks, Dimitri.

Yes, you're right. It is a listening room, but the TV just about qualifies it as a lounge. The shelves were knocked up with bits of wood I had lying about the place; as each holds 200 plus records, they were fairly substantial!

I need a fourth shelf, though, as there are still two boxes of records over.

No, no, no............you need a fifth & sixth shelf, because there are so many more records out there!!!!!
It looks nice Mike, well done.

Hi Mike

Looking very good, and this sort of set up allows you to pay attention to all those important details (which you have) that make or break a system.

Well done....

though I would prefer LPs stored end on, than front on imho....on purely visual grounds. You will need more, trust me. I thought I had built enough cubes, to work with my occasional LP buying...I hadn't.

Thanks, neil.

Although storing records end-on is easier, I found it a pain to browse (in fact I couldn't, really!) and pulling the records out each time does take it out on the sleeves.

This way I can not only browse, but know exactly where to put the record back after playing. Cleanliness is next to Godliness, they say!!!!

You can probably just see the purpose-made mdf boxes I've been using; these can hold over eighty records; difficult to lift.

You could put some sheets of plastic (a bit bigger than size of an LP) to separate LP by letters, for instance... :o
You know, the way they do in shops. ;)

Nice idea, Dimitri, but with only 40 to 50 albums in each stack, I only cover about three to four alphabet letters in each. Finding an album was never so easy....or just browsing, for which purpose the shelves were built.

As Neil says, I'm gonna have to build a fourth one, but I'm not looking forward to it as I thought I'd finished DIY for awhile !
