Winning it and paying for it are two different things, of course...

Wot I meant was - they don't look original to me (and I've seen a few Leaks in my time). Perhaps they're even older in which case I'll admit mistaken identity..

I have a mate with Croft re-built TL12's and they're lovely, if different slightly to the Quads. They HATED being moved around and connected to various different speaker loads, needing around half an hour to settle down again.

TL12+ was miles better than the TL12.1

I believe you will find that it is original, it's the forerunner of the TL12+. They started making them back in the 1940's, which is too early even for me.:trust:

I have had my TL10's hanging onto a pair of Apogee Stages, they were amazing producing some increadable bass, push pull makes all the difference to a low powered amp running power hungry speakers, wished i had never parted with the Apogees,

HiFi Dave ought to have them for his collection.........

TL10's into Stages. Oh those poor amps, thrashed that way.. have the stages ribbons collapsed yet, or is this just something that happens to the big ones??????

Jonboy
13-12-2009, 18:53
The ribbons were perfect on these and they also had there original packing boxes, but hey ho i can't keep everything, i passed them on to a local-ish dealer who has a soft spot for Apogees even though he flogs stuff fo 10's of thousands of pounds!!?.
The TL10's were only run for a few hours on then just to see if they could, i spoke another guy from Kent who ran Apogees on Audionote kit and claimed that these low powered valve amps were ok at running 2ohm speakers

The treble ribbons tend to go loose on the bigger speakers buy all accounts, they can be re-tensioned if you know what you are doing, my mate has just replaced these on his Diva's, you know who you are if your reading this matey, when are you going to start to post then?:)

No, they're the originals all right, though they're not worth the final bid price of £2,333.38, they're only worth £2,333.00!

Are they as good as circa £5000 modern day mono block amps? i have never listened to a pair but have been told by a few different people that the 10.1's are not that much behind the 12.1's in sound quility, i heard it also said that the higher the number in Leaks ie TL25's or TL50's the worse the sound quility got not counting the 12.1 though, i have listened to TL25's but not the others, i have got a Stereo 20 which i think are good value for money, i have the chance of borrowing a Stereo 60 just to see if they are any better than a Stereo 20, a lot rarer i know, but worth the extra money who knows?

I had a couple of immac Stereo 60's for a while and they are good - much bigger and beefier than the Stereo 20. I regret selling them now.:violin:

You must of been on there all night to look at that many photos, they certainly don't do things by halfs thats for sure, and hence why the price of leaks is going up and up, i do like the Westrex stuff looks to be better built than the Leaks
