Not seen these before. My initial thought is that is that even if it's half decent it's a reasonable price, though I don't know what he import tax would be. I think I'll stick with my original though !

I'm surprised they didn't copy the circuit too!! Based on a Heathkit??!!

That chassis isn't even earthed. The IEC earth isn't even connected!!!! Cheap power supplies, and it's a rip-off of a proper amp. Avoid. It's not really a reasonable price to be electrocuted. I'd want to be paid a little more for that....

Sound advice and to be fair the fine original can be picked up for a song.

The parts appear good..... once again, how do they do it:eek: It would cost me around £200 just to buy in the parts for this,,,, before any labour or profit margin.... £89:eek:

True. And having used the original and not been very impressed, I think I'd look for something better anyway.

Should buy up a load of these and strip the parts out ;)

Nothing wrong with a Quad 34. It does what it does and I love it ;-). No 'argument' here, we like what we like, normal caveat of 'it's only a stereo' applies !

Some of my happiest listening was with a 34 / 405-2 combo. Classic Quad sonic character both positive and negative depending on your persuasion. Over time the slight shrillness at high volume and lack of thump at the bottom end led me to move on, but as you rightly say "it does what it does". Full marks for the juxtaposition of modern and retro styling.

I've often wondered about the upgrade services available (which I'm sure must have been discussed here previously). In the end I had my 34 and 306 serviced at that place near Cambridge !

The 405 clone looks none too shabby either. The important thing to bear in mind here is the provenance of the components used: Chinese sourced components are often of dubious quality, especially capacitors. So as always "caveat emptor".
