I recently had Tirna Electronics upgrade my 7520 to the wolfson chip and 4562 opamps.

Who has that upgrade AS WELL AS the MCL5/6 mod? The one where you cut the legs?

What were your impressions before and after the MCL5/6 mod? Would you recommend this mod with the wolfson chip already in place?

thanks

I fall into that category. The MCL5/6 mod is worth carrying out with the proviso that if you suffer from bass boom it may increase the problem. If you snip one leg only its easily reversible, so worth a try.

Me too,
Its DEFO worth doing, opened up the soundstage quite noticably for me....and allowed those little details (reverb, piano note decay n stuff) to come flooding out.

As Covenant said...its easy to reverser the 5/6 mod..just put a wee blob of solder to cover the gap to reconnect the cap in circuit.

Oh,
and I've tried quite a few different OpAmp combinations...and I have went BACK to the 4562 amps...
I'm not a headphone user so its not a problem for me, but I found taking the 2nd 4562 from the HPA socket improved the clarity I was hearing that wee bit more.

Of course if you use headphones...just ignore that!

Hope this helps

So, is the change of chip to Wolfson WM8716 recommended regardless if you have done MCL5/6 thing?
Is it also recommended regardless of what opamp do you use?

The WM8716 gives a higher output and a higher resolution.

The WM8716 gives a higher output and a higher resolution.

So I understand that is recommended regardless of other opamps or mods done to 7520?
Thank you

The higher output is also better suited to try the passive out mod, I don't think anybody has preferred the PCM1716 over the WM8716 Wolfson yet anyway?
