My latest buy a nice TEAC X1000 :eyebrows:
Not sure if these are any good?, this was a bit of an impulse buy as it was going for a good price ;)

A nice domestic showpiece Alan but does not even begin to even slightly compare with your Studer. Construction for a domestic unit is ok but rather challenged on a professional level as you will see when you remove the back.

In their day (the early to mid 1980's) they cost around £900 which was a kings ransom back then however compared to professional mecahines they were extremely cheap.

I hankered after one of these in my younger years but encountered my first Studer A80 at the age of 16 and was thereafter hooked on pro machines. I bought my first A80 in 1991 for £400 but it took me nearly 30 years to aquire the machine I really wanted at the time which was an A820.

These are a complete nightmare to work on but again quite good when in working order.

Hi stewart,
Ill see how it turns out whan I get time to pick it up ?, hopefully its in good working order and I can just calibrate it and move it on I think
I have a Teac 32.2B and expect is just another version of that ?

As you say its certainly no rival for my A810 but it was never meant to be that :)
I also would like to own a Studer A820 but at the going rates these days thats not likely and I havent got 30 years left :D

Got it home and cleaned up the tape guides there was no magnetism in the heads so I didnt demag, put a tape on it and it sounds good :)
Its only 3.75" & 7.5" so no high speed its also compatible with EE tape which is a fist for me and I have a new (NOS) Maxell XL11 EE tape

Everything works very well and the dual capstan runs smooth and no tape instability, Tape heads also look good
I do note that the right channel is low on output compraed to the left channel so I will have a look at why tomorrow
