View Full Version : Hong Kong Hi-End 2016 Show Pics
Leo Yeh at it again. (http://my-hiend.com/wp/2016%e5%b9%b4%e9%a6%99%e6%b8%af%e9%ab%98%e7%b4%9a% e8%a6%96%e8%81%bd%e5%b1%95%e5%af%a6%e6%b3%81%e5%a0 %b1%e5%b0%8e/)
That's how to cover a show! Amazing stuff and superb photos!
Yup - pics are almost beyond belief good. Leo probably is the world's best hi-fi show photographer. His Munich stuff has been amazing over the years.

What strikes me is some of the kit if flipping enormous, I though most far eastern abodes were a bit stuck for space?
I liked the 'Live Cable' in the box. Quick shut the lid it might escape
Which link are you guys using to access the pics? When I click on the one Justin posted, all I get is taken to the guy's on-line magazine (written in Chinese), and then get lost after that, trying to find where the pics are...
Could someone post a link that takes you DIRECTLY to the show pictures? Cheers!
Marco.

I did that initially, then changed it to the menu page. I figured non-numpties would prefer that:D
Marco,
I just followed that link and then clicked on Page 1 or Page 2 etc to get to the photos. If you hover you will see that the lists are basically links.

Lol - well, I'm a 'minimise the clicks to arrive where you want' kinda guy. Too lazy to do otherwise! ;)
I'll go via the edited link in your original post.

Nope, beyond a floor plan, there's just a whole load of text and gobbledygook to me...

Not page one, but 'Report'.... It's all rather difficult to read, though, with all those ads and stuff. I just want to see the show pics, nothing else.

I just went on to the link and it was fine, just keep scrolling down and eventually you will come to the hifi pics after the nice oriental ladies!

..... after the nice oriental ladies!
tbh it was only the pretty ladies occasionally featured in the photos that kept me interested! :D

I got bored after the 3rd page... everything looks the bloody same? lol

Lol.... I persevered and scrolled down far enough to get to the relevant bits!
TBH, all the ads and reams of Chinese text, puts me off. What he should've done on his homepage is provided a link that takes you directly to the pics of the show, nothing else, sans any ads or extraneous bullshit, saving you having to plough through stuff that's of no interest.
However, he obviously wants the income from 'click-throughs', generated by the traffic visiting his website, hence why all that pish [ads, etc] is there, and you're led through it. When you get there, though, the pics are very good!
Marco.
I never got anything ladt night bar a single page of Chinese, so gave up.
...and therein lays the problem:
If you want maximum exposure to your website/pictures or whatever, make it as easy as possible for folks to access it! :exactly:
Marco.
My problem wasn't accessing it, but trying to get through the enormous amount of photos.
It was definitely a parade of the worlds most expensive hifi gear which I can only drool over!
After about a dozen key-strokes I got there.
Was it worth it? No - there was nothing to interest me, and nothing that hadn't been displayed at other high-end audio shows.

I'm probably more with Barry and Jo, these days... Ultra-high end hi-fi is not really where I'm at. Top-notch vintage gear (which I can bespoke modify if necessary) is more my scene now :)

Lol... I rest my case.
For me the worst thing is all the bloody ads. I could plaster AoS like that, and earn a fortune from commission, but I suspect it would go down about as well with the membership as it does with me! ;)
Marco.
Some of the speakers look like they fell out the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down. I'd quite like a go on a few of them though. No doubt they cost hundreds of thousands to buy.

As you know from them equipment I use I am in the same camp as you Marco. The ultra high end stuff is just hifi porn and a lot of it would never sound great anyway as it seems to be designed more from a bling aspect than a musical perspective.
Crikey - post a link to some ragging hard on hi-fi porn and what do you get?LOL.

Well you might think it to be "ragging hard on hi-fi porn", but I do not - just a lot of overpriced 'bling'.
Some of it will actually be good stuff Barry. The fact you can't afford it is just the way it goes.
Why resent it just because it costs a bomb? I can't afford it either. But I don't resent the price tags.

Some of it may well be good stuff, but a lot of it could be bettered for far less. Very few of the high-end marques can be treated as belonging in the veblen category.
I can't afford an SME 30, but I do recognise the cost reflects the superb precision engineering involved.
I bet you could, if you *really* wanted one... ;)
Besides, if you sold some of the 'old tat' (spare equipment) you've got in your house, that would pay for it, no problem! :eyebrows:

Lol - I know... Ungrateful bastids we is! :D
Marco.
I think the carpet is even worse than the stuff that was down when I was there in 2008. Also, it looks a bit less high end than 2008. lagging behind Munich more than it used too?
Couple of my fave pics.

The speakers interest me, less so the rest of it. We all know that at best the super expensive digital front ends are only going to be a tiny increment better than a Squeezebox Touch and the amps just a tiny bit better than something good at a tenth the price. But it is harder to cheat with a speaker.
The annoying thing is that if the speakers are really good then the marginal improvements to be gained elsewhere become important.
Kind of a "got you by the nads" situation.:D
There is that. It is a hobby of marginal improvements, after a certain point I suppose. I've not got that far yet.
Aye with a lottery win.
Have promised myself a trip to the Rocky Mountain shindig though. Closest I'll get :)
I keep meaning to do that one.
