Anyone heard this 24/192 multi input DAC? Quite fancy this matches the Micromega with the black brushed facia aswell.

I'm trying to get one for a customer right now, but failing! Do you have retail prices?

Thanks

Dave

Did it give a phone number? Should be able to shave a bit off that?

It's very nice but even though you have 24/96/192 will only give you 16/44.1 via USB..Which is no better than the HRT streamer i have but an obvious upgrade for the CD Player..Only way out PC wise is a lappy with digital output which are quite expensive.

I've listened to it once, but I didn't find it very exciting (for the price). I still prefer the Caiman (or the Northstar192).
It's main advantage was the I2S input to match it with its transport. Without the transport... well it's just "any-dac".
Therefore, I would advise to listen before buying, if you can.

Btw, Andre, I plan to sell my Northstar192 (black) soon. Are you looking for a good black dac ? ;)

Personally think that Stello transport is tripe, the cheap Sony lazer mech chucked in there..

You're probably right, but the ratio sound/price seemed "ok" to me. Nothing exceptional, but not a failure either.

But the dac on its own... well, no. But I'm kinda fussy with dacs, and others' opinions (including yours) may be different. I can accept that.

I saw (in a french hifi forum) a Trivista 21 (1300 pieces produced) for sale 600€. This is a nice dac to have, too. Built like a tank. But... it's not black !

I tried to get hold of this DAC a month ago and contacted the manufacturer in the fareast. They said they are in talk with a distributor in the UK (did not give the name of the distributor).Asked me to wait few months before I can buy it.
Dave, let me know once you managed to source it

doesn't Russ Andrews market his own version of the Stello 100? I could be wrong - check the website. For the prices involved I'd definitely advise auditioning first - this is Caiman territory.

No, he doesn't make any DAC-1 anymore. He sells Firestone dacs now.

I managed to order the Signature version for a customer for £649.95, they were in stock too! With balanced and ordinary outputs it looks good. This is the proper version not the Andrews version.

Thing is Stan if your looked less like a cheap chinese import your sales might just get into a higher market

All dacs look the same to me : a rectangular box (black/silver) with a couple of lights and -sometimes- a volume control.
In fact, I use dacs to listen to music, not to look at them. Strange, eh ? ;)

Thats odd Demitri cos i know & i'm sure a lot do that hi-fi is a joke so i now buy something well made that looks good, nothing else.

I'm offski had about as much as i can take on this forum to be honest. This place reminds me very much of another where everyone has the same product

There no "enormous" differences between well made dacs, that's a fact for me.
A seriously designed dac sounds always good, and putting £1000 or £2000 more usually brings nothing much, if anything (compared to the differences between mastered versions of records, for instance).
There're better ways of spending one's money than on dacs, nowadays : and the situation can only get better as years pass by, imho.
