Hope He/She accepts my good offer!

Is it really worth 4k-ish??? what makes it so special?

I have seen some crazy prices on ebay for 'antiques' - are they really worth it, or are they fishing for suckers?

The Leak turntable based on the GL75 was the Delta. This is a Leak 2001 which is a completely different belt drive design.

You're quite right. I'd forgotten!

I used to own one of these and they are a cracking sounding amp. Made by B&W, output is 50wpc although with a hefty PS and torroidal tranny onboard current delivery is healthy. It is a superbly made product and it looks very cool IMHO :)

Yep - SS-1005 the same as I picked up - missing the Serial Number labels to confirm but they look identical - sound very good to my ears. They didn't oust the Diamond 7.2s on a permanent basis, though. Maybe something to do with the fact that they fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down! ;)

Sugar would have briefed Rega to make him a cheap piece of shit that 'looked cool'. He has not an ounce of quality in his thinking and Rega would have been stripped to a few quid margin per unit.
I know as he tried to do that with the company I worked for then but we wouldn't grovel enough for the business.

I never had a problem with pinking on mine Frank as far as I can remember. I really lucked out with that car to be honest. I bought it in Kings Lynn from a builder having seen his ad in the the local rag. Because of his trade I very nearly didn't go and look at it. It just so happened that I was passing his address on my way back from work the following afternoon and noticed the car parked outside. It looked to be in cracking condition so I decided to stop for a closer look. It was mint inside and out (rare for a builders vehicle ) and at 350 quid taxed and MOT'd I just couldn't resist.

Well I just bought a very clean TD160 Super Mk.II with ADC ALT1 arm and VMS 20E cartridge. For less than half this one's price and the Super has a Lexan lid not the old polystyrene type, which as you say breaks! The arm & cartridge are gone, so now the TT stands me in at about £100, not too bad!

I doubt the LP12 was based on the TD160, as both were released to the market in 1972. The earlier TD150 seems likely to have influenced the Linn design though.

Still a fairly good chance of 3 bargains here - only 48 hrs to go (Sunday evening finish) and the SL_P1200B is currently at £10.50 plus shipping and the two SL-P1200 ASC machines are sitting at £20 and £25 plus shipping!!!

Got me the 1200B at not a bad price - the first one went for £243 IIRC - more snipers than a Bosnian marketplace.

£50 is the very very top limit for a minty pair IMO. I found they sucked me in, I thought they sounded great alright] but once you move on to something else... Anything else [except maybe Ditton 15's dare I say it ] you may find they sound dull as dishwater, wooly and indistinct.

You can easily pick up Goodmans Magnum K for under £70 which are IMO/IME better in every department as long as you listen relatively "on axis" due to the cone tweeter. I wish I kept mine

This is Emporium Hi-Fi. They are well known. Used to be The Hi-Fi Emporium of Diss, Norfolk if I'm not mistaken. Andr'e just bought a nice Michell Focus from them.

I'd imaging they have some nice bits and pieces, but it's taking the piss expecting to get £100 to let people view stuff they want to sell. They'll probably want top dollar for these bits. I'd sooner miss out than pay to view and I'm sure they'd have stuff I'd be interested in. They can keep it!

From the Stannit website:

The Curse of Blue Peter (http://www.standard.co.uk/news/the-curse-of-blue-peter-7283146.html)

It seems that no amount of stickyback plastic and cardboard toilet-roll holders can help former Blue Peter presenter John Leslie mend his shattered career. If it's any consolation (and it probably won't be), the TV star can take some solace from the fact that he's far from alone.

Over the years, an alarming number of former Blue Peter presenters have found themselves immersed in scandals more usually associated with rock stars and Tory MPs. The show's once squeaky-clean image has been tarnished with tales of drugtaking, infidelity, sexual scandal and bankruptcy. During the golden years of John Noakes, Peter Purves and Valerie Singleton the show became synonymous with childhood innocence, but embarrassing revelations about the private lives of presenters are now as memorable as the animals who regularly misbehaved on camera.

The show's name was given a whole new meaning when it emerged that presenter Peter Duncan had once appeared in a pornographic film. We look back at some of the presenters and the scandals which meant they probably had to give back those coveted badges.

Christopher Trace

The first presenter of Blue Peter, from 1958 to 1967, was criticised for giving children a recipe for alcoholic ginger beer. He left the programme under a cloud after his wife filed for divorce, citing a Norwegian girl called Tuna whom he had met while filming the programme. He was declared bankrupt in 1973 and died in 1992.

Peter Duncan

Duncan was the only person to do two stints on the show - 1980 to 1984, and 1985 to 1986 - and the first to appear in a sex film. An actor, Duncan was hired to take over John Noakes's action-man role, but parents objected to his scruffy jeans and sweaters. He played Charlie Chaplin in a musical and was also in Barnum. Now 38, he has a wife, Annie, and three daughters, and still does the odd spot of TV.

Janet Ellis

The actress left Blue Peter in 1987 after four years when it was revealed she had separated from her husband and was pregnant by another man. She later married TV producer John Leach, the father of her child, and went on to campaign on behalf of CND and asthma research, and to host Top Gear. She is now most famous for being the mother of 23-yearold pop star Sophie Ellis Bextor.

Sarah Greene

At 22, Sarah Greene was the youngest presenter when she joined the show in 1980. She left in 1983 to go back to acting and has presented several TV shows, including Going Live. In 1988, she narrowly escaped death when the helicopter being flown by her fiancè, now husband, Mike Smith crashed. She now appears in adverts for financial companies on cable TV.

Michael Sundin

His tenure at the show was brief, from September 1984 to June 1985. He died from liver cancer, aged 27, in 1989. An ex-world trampoline champion, he is said to have left after a personality clash. There was controversy after he was filmed naked in a sex show at the Hippodrome and his gay past revealed. When it emerged that he was dying, he returned to his native Newcastle.

Anthea Turner

Turner presented from 1992 to 1994. She went on to host the Lottery, marry her manager, and have an affair with married businessman Grant Bovey. They later wed but their big day was tarnished by claims that wedding photographs were issued as part of a sponsorship deal with a chocolate maker. Now 42, she recently appeared on Celebrity Big Brother. She enjoys housework.

Richard Bacon

Bacon was sacked just before the show's 40th birthday in 1998, after admitting in a Sunday newspaper that he took cocaine. The newspaper had tracked Bacon, who had been on the show for two years, to a drug dealers' home before confronting him. The scandal severely embarrassed the BBC. Bacon, now 27, became a presenter on the Big Breakfast, and is still much in demand.

If he's 'now 38' in 2013 that means he was 5 when he started presenting Blue Peter

You have to be kidding! Over £100 for a nasty plastic Garrard? I'd sooner have a PL-12D any day.

Surely such lunacy is unsustainable ?

In the past 18 months strange things have happened to the value of proper "poor mans hifi" ... Nad 3020@£100, Dual cs-505@£100, JPW mini-monitors@£50... The list goes on & on. It seems to me that more people are buying "poor mans hifi" thus increasing its value. There are more s/h bargains than ever in the £500-£1000 bracket

There also appears to be lots of confused buyers that are under the false understanding that if its old its good. Sure there are some classic gems but a lot of it is just shite.

Never seen one of those before Jon, very sixties looking. I've not heard an EL95 amp. I don't know if you got it cheap or paid too much, but it is certainly interesting. I'd change the mains cabling to 'normal' colour coding at the first opportunity, but no doubt you'll have that in hand. And, less important, but I'd wire the DIN connections to 'normal' too. The hum could be anything from bad earthing to a dying capacitor, etc., should be traceable.

Looking forward to it, my mate Mike has quite a few spare EL95 valves in stock so he's quite excited about servicing it, the price went over my original budget a bit but hey ho.

he and i have not seen one before and he's been around around the block a bit

Are they really changing hands for that sort of money now?

I've still got all my original KC albums in good nick (and just about every significant late sixties/seventies album)!

Just wondering if I'm sitting on a hundred grands worth of vinyl, I know some of it is rare and sought after.

Apparently the carefully placed apples are an essential upgrade for the Rogers! ;)

I've not heard these ones but had a pair of LS6 which had a big, warm sound but were also distinctly coloured and boxy sounding IMO. Sold them on in days.
