I'm pleased to announce that Ammonite Audio will be at Scalford this year, in the Pavilion, which is a large marquee structure located behind the hotel. Apart from various trade stands, the Pavilion also has a full bar and catering facilities.

Please come over to say hello, and to see (and hear) my range of Jelco tonearms and accessories. There will be some special offers!

I'll have the naked Kenwood KD-990 with Jelco SA-750E tonearm and Kontrapunkt B cartridge to demonstrate the Jelco stuff. I may have a new Paul Hynes MC head amplifier to play with too, but otherwise it will be Audio Note AN-S3 SUT and Paul Hynes Veron Concert phono amp, feeding Beyerdynamic A2 headphone amp and Denon AH-D7000 'phones.

Cool, that sounds good. If you don't manage to get hold of the PH head amp in time, would you like to borrow mine for the show? I use it with an SR5 PSU - sounds STUNNING! :)

Yesterday's Scalford Show was rather good, although being confined to my stand in the Pavillion I could not venture into the main hotel to see and hear what was going on in the various rooms. The atmosphere was quite different to the Whittlebury Show, and I was kept very busy chatting to visitors about my Jelco accessories, Miyajima cartridges; and not least my 'naked' Kenwood KD-990 deck, which certainly attracted many positive comments. Everyone seemed to be very impressed with the sound of my demo Miyajima Takumi cartridge, which was singing away beautifully at the end of a 10" Jelco SA-750E on the Kenwood. I was very happy with the sound, played via Denon AHD-7000 'phones. Thanks to everyone who came up for a chat, and extra thanks to those who bought something!

These Tsakirdiris amplifiers on another stand looked lovely, with astonishingly reasonable prices

Nice one, Hugo. Unfortunately, I couldn't make it. However, looks like you had a good time. Hope it was productive for you :)

Just a quick one... Which record clamp is that you were using on the Kenwood? It looks like an Audio Technica model I've seen before.

That record weight is actually my own, and the filling is kiln dried sharp sand. It was produced on-spec by the people who machine the Jelco collars, and they are keen for me to put it on the market. I chatted to quite a few people yesterday about it, and it's possible that I will introduce it in a solid-topped version, fully machined and anodised, but without any filling. This would allowing users to fill the middle with whatever they like, eg lead shot, copper slag etc. I've been put off up until now because there are quite a few record weights out there, so how could mine be sufficiently different to attract buyers, but I will certainly now be talking to my fabricators about pricing.

Well, it attracted my attention, even though it was way out of camera shot (simply because I knew it was a bit different)! ;)

My advice would be to put the record weight into production and add it to your product range, as folk love buying quality accessories for their T/Ts. Yes, there are loads of different record weights out there (although not so many that are mass-tuneable), but that doesn't stop people buying various different ones.

I like it, Hugo, and think you'd sell a few, if it was pitched at the right price :)
