RAF Dambuster Squadran used the Derwent to practise for their famous raid on the Ruhr dams, Germany. Other than that claim to fame the dams were originally built to provide water for Sheffield, Derby, Nottingham and Leicester.

Am I alone in thinking that pine trees just look too 'out of place' in the English countryside?

If you look at the first pic & didnt know where it was you would be easily fooled into thinking that was the Black forest area of Germany.

You're not alone Martin, but I'd disagree! Well, I would, having spent a large part of my life growin' 'em!

You want to try persuading people like the Forestry Commission that there's a place for Eucalyptus forests in the UK - I tried that for a few years!
