Have a look at these internal shots of a preamplifier and if possible could you give me some information about it.

Any info would be good, there's nothing at all on the net except for one for sale in the US for $1,500.

Oh, and I'm not going to tell you who it's made by or the model. :) If you need any more specific pictures please say so.

Anyone?

That's a weird one - looks British poss NAD or Creek. I wouldn't buy it. For some reason they have used some 105 degree caps but the ones nearest heatsinks and therefore the ones most likely to get warm look like they are only 85 degrees. Not good for long term reliability IMHO. Does not look like a 1500 quid job to me, whoever made it.
Dave.

It is a weird one, from a company I can't find much about at all. It's on for $1500 (so £700 ish) but don't worry, I'm not buying it, it's something I've had laying about for years and I thought I'd get an opinion on the internals. :) I might plug it in and see how it sounds tonight.

Would the caps really get that hot in a pre-amp?

They shouldn't do but the fact that they have felt it necessary to fit heatsinks to what may well be voltage regulators suggests to me that the designer expected the regulators to get warm and the caps are near them. It might be my MOD training but I would always fit 105 degree caps in that sort of area. I know I'm a sad git but it's one of my pet hates - sloppy design I call it:)
