Marco and moderators; not sure if this is the appropriate section for breaking news. Apologies if it isn't. That said, is there interest from members re breaking news? At HFA we receive about 20 press releases per week but not all of them are of relevance. Neil and i can probably supply one per day, most days.

Links back to HFA are usually because the press releases are big, contain embedded hi-res images and if posted in entirety on AoS would suck up a lot of memory / space - just in case anyone wondered.

Thanks

Interesting to read a review of these amps and also good to see Howard is still around . I used to see much more by Howard in the past

Heard these yesterday, teamed with both the enormous £8,000 electrostatics and the yet to be launched multi-drive unit floorstander.....a steal at £4,000:D

I'm not at all in the market for Hi Fi but would love to hear the new gear. The Artera CD player and S1 speakers in particular really interest me. Anyone seen any reviews ?

There is an enthusiastic review of both the Artera CD player and amplifier in the November issue of Hi-Fi News magazine. It looks superb with beautiful clean lines with very good sound quality. The CD player (the Quad Artera Play) will sell for £1,400.

I would be interested in it, were it not made in China.

What does it matter, as long as it sounds good? Not everything that's British is best! ;)

Unless, with the China thing, you're inferring the existence of slave labour and would boycott buying new products from Quad for that reason...?

I don't imagine Quad (or rather IAG) use 'slave labour' at all. Rather I have doubts about the use of locally sourced components in their designs. The reputation of Quad took serious dent after it was reported the later samples of the 909 amplifier used local Chinese-made electrolytics, much to the detriment of the SQ.

Sure, I get that. However, my view is not to 'dismiss' anything until you've listened to it...

Prejudging a piece of kit like that without having heard it isn't the best idea, IMHO. For all you know, it might sound as good as it looks! :)

Clearly, the fact that it's made in China has had little or no impact on its looks or sound quality (and Quad don't employ slave labour), so I'm struggling to understand what your above objection to it is....

Perhaps it's no longer quintessentially British, old chap? Arf! :eyebrows: ;)

I have nothing but praise for the latest Quad products and have been selling them as a sensible alternative to the likes of Bryston but at 1/4 the price. The QSP and QMP are excellent amplifiers and I will be stocking Artura as soon as I am up and running again.
