See if you can which piece of HI Fi equipment this PCB is out of.

That's too easy - it's written on the board!

It's a very nicely designed and laid out board though!

well, it's obviously a Shanling something-or-other, 'cos it's writ on the board and it's also obviously a highly strung piece of gear as the components look to be fancy "boutique" ones here and there.

Shanling came to the KJ group just as the Northampton contingent was committing suicide by starvation, so we never got to use their stuff...

Looks to me like a bloody great piledriver to crack a tiny little nut though...;)

Ok, Yes it is my Shangling Omega Drive. I took it apart because 2 of the nice blue LEDs had stopped working. I was very disapointed with the workmanship on the PCB. Dont get me wrong this CD player sounds and looks great (to me anyway), all the components are very good quality and full size so no problems repairing it, but even the most junior of engineers at my place could have done a better job of putting it together.

Note the black cap at an angle, the legs were bent into weird angles.

Most of the electrolitic caps are not seated correctly, and the op amp sockets are not seated either.

This is the rest, the CNC casing is superb and made to very a very tight tollerance.

I think givern the price of this inem it should have had a better build quality.

BTW I brought this used from a dealer two and a half years ago for a lot less than the £3999.00 they were new.

Lots of Riken and PRP resistors, Nichicon FG caps, film caps possibly SCR Solen, its going to have a heavy signature tuned to sombodys taste:)
A bit like KI tuned Marantz products using lots of Elna Silmics

The CNC casing looks impressive, only thing I hate is those multiway plugs, those are found in lots of Chinese gear, don't bend or handle those ribbon cables too much as the crimped contacts inside of those plugs tend to give intermittent connection

You've obviously never looked closely inside the average Nak cassette deck. I was cheekily told the caps were deliberately bent over for best sound quality (the engineer said to me with eyes raised to the ceiling)..

My concern about this is, is this the normal standard to which Chinese made Hi Fi, I'am thinking Quad etc? Th old Quad was made well, I've not seen inside a Chinese one so thats why I'm asking the question.
