I have just been reading of the death of cancer of Jim Thiel, last Thursday, September 18th, 2009.

Sad loss of a hi-fi pioneer - he carried out important work on time and phase alignment of loudspeakers and implemented it into the design of speakers like the Thiel 3.6.

Another one passes on with noone to come in at the youthful end to further his ideas... is this industry really going to stagnate and die???????

I must confess to not having heard a pair of Thiel speakers, but as they universally gained praise, I must say it has been my loss. However to hear of the death of another key member of the audio industry makes me very sad indeed.

Where is the new talent to take up the mantel laid down by such designers.

I did go to the States years ago to listen to Thiel speakers that at the time were very highly regarded. The company used to go to great lengths to make a speaker that measured well but I have to say they didn't "float my boat".

I hope he's happy wherever he is now.
