Hi Guys

As mentioned earlier here are my efforts at produce abstract light paintings by using a camera in a different way to normal. It would be impossible to achieve the purity of colours with pigment.

i like those, but the first one is brilliant! a very good example, of what i was previously talking about!
the last one is also very good, i could imagine that in a radiohead inlay

Thank you Hamish.

First time I have ever thought of a camera as a way of producing images other than straight forward ones. The thing I really liked was the randomness of things. The effects changed based on how many cars were crossing the bridge or if the vehicles were lorries etc and also what type of vehicle illumination was being used. I had a lot of fun doing it. I have some more but thought that was enough to be going on with. Thinking outside the box can and often does produce interesting things.

Radio Head Yes or a chill out dance group...that was the sort of vibe I was thinking about trying to achieve.

Thanks for the positive comments glad I was not wasting my time...though as art is in the eye of the beholder, I was mainly making these for me, so if others like them great, if not oh well...

me and a mate used a led light torch to highlight the edge of a car in a otherwise very low light situation, i cant find the photo unfortunatly now., but the effect was very interesting.
as an extention of this sort of experiment it might be worth introducing your own light source. it could be that you use it to highlight an object from the position of taking the photo so the lights apear to dance around it, (an example of this would be to shine a torch on to a tree whilst cars go past) or you could just dance around with the light your self... thats always good for a laugh!
other interesting effects can be achived by zooming the lens in or out wilst the shutter is open

for daves benefit, this is one of my mistakes turned good!

Interesting effects on some of the yellow light. Presumably it's indicators causing the on/off effects. The most interesting of these effects are in images 3 & 6 where it looks twisted like a helix.
