Maybe should have posted this here! Anyway here goes again

Just listening to a 1930s recording of Beethoven's Kreutzer violin sonata by Thibaud and Cortot, part of a fantastic series of transcriptions and restorations by Andrew Rose.

Almost unbelievable for a 1929 recording.

Latterly I've been getting some fantastic results out of playing 78s - so much life to be had with the right cartridge and equalisation - but of course hiss and crackle is an issue. Andrew Rose's methods seem to be able to preseve the live while at the same time eliminating noise, something not generally done with universal success in the past by any means.

Anyway - just thought I should share. The Hubsch Schubert recordings are pretty magical too (I have some of these individual songs on 78).

Many thanks for this link!

I've just bagged some 24 bit FLAC Furtwangler/Beethoven, and a set of Purcell tunes for 2 euros, after I got my discount. Great offer from the Spectator.
