I know you struggle to appreciate this art form. Perhaps you will enjoy it better with subtitles - try this ;)

Its a pity her diction is so crap that she could have been singing anything, let alone the words in the subtitles. For something that is supposed to be a communication, it seems a shame that half the message is lost.

So you are right. In this case, i didn't appreciate the art form. If it had been in beautifully sung Italian or German, I may well have like it more. Ho hum.

On a serious note (sic) it's a strange thing with opera. I actually do 'appreciate' it but sadly, without enjoying it. Much in the way I can appreciate the food in some up market restaurants but actually prefer home cooking and decent portions.

Agreed, my wife is a massive fan of opera and goes several times a week if she can get tickets. Me - I just sleep through them, so it's a waste of money buying a ticket for me.

I've been to some very strange performances and locations for opera, including a mash-up of a 17th Century opera (Dido and Aeneas) with a 1950's sci-fi zombie movie, in a warehouse in New York... no chance to sleep through that one!
