The Album Club choice for February comes courtesy of Barry (Bazil).

Apologies are due to Barry as his Album Club submission was due to have been posted at the beginning of January. However owing to an unexplained oversight, an alternative was posted in its place. (The secretary has been fired and replaced with one who will keep things running to order!)

Please listen to the album in its entirety before you vote.

I'm not a massive Tom Petty fan he is an artist who's material I dip into now and again. I came across Hypnotic Eye while browsing and was quite shocked to see it had just been released, by shocked I mean, "God is he still making records".
So just out of interest I played it on Spotify, well what a surprise a top-notch album, Tom and the boys at their very best!
The album made No. 1 in the US the first Tom Petty album to do so.

The recording date of 2014 surprised me too. I have a few Tom Petty albums (such as 'Damn the Torpedos' and 'Southern Accent') and have a lot of respect for the group.

Agree Petty doesn't have the best voice around (but then he's not alone there), however I found this album made up for that with the usual hard-hitting and rocking boogie we expect from the Heartbreakers. My favourite tracks from this album are: "Fault Lines"; "All You Can Carry"; Forgotten Man"; "U Get Me High" and "Burnt Out Town".

I enjoyed listening to it - 8/10 from me.

Never thought about TP's voice before , yeah its not brilliant but you know its him, I like lead singers with distintive vocals its what I pick up first. With me TP and The Hbs songs are any american rock but his vocal gives it that mellow groove.
Even though I selected this album I'm not getting carried away but it deserves a strong 8, which would be a 9 then :D

Pretty good album especially when consider the glory days being a while back for TP and the band. His voice is still like the early days with its pros and cons and the writing pen still does it. Have to say I'm surprised, have to give it 8.
