I read about this on another forum (http://www.tapeheads.net/showthread.php?t=5154) and never realised that cassette tape came in lengths longer than 120 minutes. The mechanism is quite similar to that of a DAT tape, with guides to ensure that the tape feeds neatly onto the reels.

An interesting bit of tape-history :)

Never saw one of those before. If I had I think I would not have bothered as 120 tapes could be dodgy. I always stuck to 90 mins. Interesting though.

Of use, I guess, for recording lectures or (um) live performances ;) since the tape didn't need to be flipped as often. I agree though - fragile as hell. Bet they suffered badly from dropout too! But interesting as you say :)

I think I've got loads of those (used) stashed away. :)

Hmmm... think I've even got some 240's. Don't think they're TDK though.

Very thin, almost see-through tape. Cheapo transports trashed them, despite the added internal mechanics. Couldn't take a high signal and printed through badly too. No bass on the one I had..

I worked for a Top Tape main dealer and got to try all manner of things over the years...
