The early worm gets caught by the bird.

Hi rez - meh.
It's the music that counts. ;)

Sadly, the postage cost to NZ is probably prohibitive anyway!

I buy vinyl and SACDs from the US and Europe all the time. Postage is pretty darn expensive but if you want it badly you pay! Actually it is not that expensive when you combine shipping over half a dozen items.

Hi-Rez is the way of the future. Sadly we are foisted with a lot of crap. The current grunge is to simply upsample a CD and flog it as 'High Resolution' - when The Revolution cometh these thieves will be first to the wall!
On the other hand it much the same as it always has been with shoddy vinyl and 're-masters' of CDs. You just have to be careful what you buy. Hi-Fi News go a long way to keeping these cowboys in check - Paul Miller regularly publishes the analysis results of a selection of Hi-Rez files.
Quality wise: other things being equal it is certainly better. Orchestral work in particular benefits from the additional resolution. I look at it like this: Hi-Rez (and just Hi-Fi for that matter) depends on what you are listening to. By way of analogy if you look at a picture of a bright-eyed boy giving his sandwich to a happy dog: you get the meaning whether the resolution is 800 x 600, or 1600 x 1200. If the picture is of a sunset: well then you want all the resolution you can get to better display the majesty.

Try this out for an exquisite sound. The music could be called 'lighter fare' but the tunes, accoustics and performance are so well done that I go back to it quite often. If you don't have and SACD player then it's still worth it as the CD layer is excellent.

'pologies to get all philosophical, but it is Sunday morning, I just had a great halloween party last night and now I have cappuccino to look forward to.
