Hi,

I have a pre-amp that uses a 6Z4 Chinese 7 pin rectifier valve.
I've tried doing some research on these to see if replacements/upgrades are available but I've only found some limited info.

It seems that proper 6Z4 valve don't have 7 pins and are larger than what I need.

Does anyone know much about the Chinese version and if there are any decent replacements available from anywhere. I just want to try and track down something that's better quality than the cheapo one that came pre-installed.

BTW, I'm new to valve equipment, so go easy on the tech terms. :)

Thanks.

Hi Mike,

They look like the ones.
Is there anywhere in the UK that sells these?

Thanks.

Hi Dave,

Not that I can see. They're a weird Chinese valve with no direct equivalent that I can find, ebay may be your best bet. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Military-grade-SHANGHAI-6Z4-tube-rectifier-new_W0QQitemZ120452452824QQcmdZViewItemQQptZVintag e_Electronics_R2?hash=item1c0b8691d8&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

It may be possible to modify your amp to use something else though...

Here's another one: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MILITARY-GRADE-SHANGHAI-6Z4-FULL-WAVE-TUBE-RECTIFIER_W0QQitemZ120442124541QQcmdZViewItemQQptZ LH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item1c0ae8f8fd&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

They seem cheap enough...

Thanks Mike, I've made a note of those ebay seller for future reference as they seem like the best option for this valve.

I'll also look into your suggestion of the modification. I'm planning on having some other modifications made to the amp anyway so I may as well ask if that's possible or worthwhile too.

Thanks for the help.
