Hi Guys,
In the middle of decorating and it ain't going well - not quickly any way.
I just thought that I would put my membership of this august (in a couple of days, anyway ) forum in jeopardy by sharing this pic with you. And this is without the StanDAC which is away at hospital. when it returns it will be thrown into the mix, together with a SL1200 (if and when I ever get my hands on it :steam: ), together with a Marantz 5.1 AV amp. Its a good job that I can plait - this will help to tidy the wire. It shows the back of our little hi-fi unit in the middle of the decorating chaos. Don't panic, the little white flecs are not paint spills, they are little bits of old dried paint that came off the wall when scraping it. I did have all the kit covered up when doing the scraping and this was the sight that greeted me when I removed the dust sheet.
Did someone post that it was a good idea not to run i/cs and speaker cables near power leads? :lolsign:

Sorry for the slightly blurred pic but I was felling slightly rough round the edges myself after all that scraping !
Cheers,

Dave,

LOL... Tut, tut - this is the situation chez-moi:

Take note! ;)

Marco.

P.S The mains block seen on the floor to the left is a spare feed and isn't used for normal duties. Everything is hard-wired with serious cables into the dedicated CU shown :eyebrows:

I sincerely hope those cables aren't touching the wall, Marco, me ol' mucker.
Because if they are, you should take a lesson from Dave!!!!

Hehehehe... Mains cables don't seem to be affected in the same way as signal cables :)

Honestly though, guys, 'rats nest' cables do the performance of your system no favours whatsoever!

those speakers are quite quite perdy!

i haven't spent to much effort with my cables for a while as i intend to commit a lot of time to it when i have my own house (not rented)
one of my good mates is a spark, we have talked about supplying my hifi with its own mains supply... when this happens i will be coming to this forum for advice on bits and how to do it

No worries, Hamish - I know how it is :)

When you do decide to take the plunge, mains-wise, give me a shout because with that stuff I've been there, done that, and bought the t-shirt!

Which speakers are you referring to as "perdy" - the Spendors or the Lockwoods?

If it's the latter, I'm shocked! :eyebrows:

Btw, Big Ears Audio (where I traded-in my Spendors for the Lockwoods) have got the Spendors up for sale, if anyone's interested, looking rather nice after being French polished (scroll down to the second pair shown):

How did I live with something so 'tiny' for six years?

Marco, this is a genuine question, but were you told to twist the "Wind" speaker cables together? I don't have huge experience of them, but I was told to lay each conductor separately on the set I sold as this was why they were supplied as two separate leads per speaker... They certainly sounded good with the Amati Homage speakers they went with...

My setup isn't as neat, but I've tried to keep the mains and signal cables apart and it works well for me.

Hi Dave,

See here (where I bought it from):

http://www.futureshop.co.uk/van-den-hul-the-wind-mkii-hybrid-speaker-cable-price-per-m-p-1811.html

...noting this bit:

Before connecting The WIND Mk II HYBRID to your equipment we advise to mildly twist both leads to keep them together.

I might revisit it, though. I can't say I've heard a big difference either way - they sound superb, regardless :)

Hi Guys,
I'm always available for i/c and wiring advice if any of you have particularly complex systems to set up - the previously posted pic is just one of many similar layouts I can put together - any questions, just ask. :lolsign::lolsign:
Note to Admn.:
Please do NOT add this post to the proposed sticky on offers of help to members !!

It's a very impressive wiring loom, Dave.

Just one thing though - It's about the bowline you've got your left hand speaker cable tied into. I think you must've made it so the rabbit went round the tree too many times before he bobbed back into his hole.

.............so you weren't in the Scouts then?

Hi Chris,
Oh yes I was in the Scouts (a long long time ago and can't remember which Patrol I was in :steam: ), and it's not a bowline, running or otherwise  . It might just be a Granny but she's no longer around to ask so I can't be sure :lolsign:
