Just a quickie, I know this valve type can be used in the linestage of the pre, anyone know if it's ok to use one on the Power ? Thx, Ian.

Jan GE 5751? I'm using that both as the pre-amp line stage valve and as the valve in the Series 7 power amp in my Crofts.

I've just re-read my post which perhaps lacked the essential detail of my question . Yes, the 5751 Keith. Currently have Gold Lion ECC83 which are lovely and I'll try these in the PSU with the Jan GE as you do in the line stage and 7 Power. They're not stupidly expensive at just over £50 the pair. Presumably your happy with them ?

Hi Ian,

Hope you enjoying the crofts again. I am using the GE 5751 in the input stage of my Series 7. I initially used it to lower the gain but it also has the advantage of sounding superb!
If you want to improve the pre amp valves i can definitely recommend the NOS Tesla ECC83 but be careful you get authentic ones, there are a lot of fakes out there. i use mine in the phono stage but I am sure they will benefit you in the line stage.

If you need to know what to look for to get original Teslas I can point you in the right direction.:)

Yes, they are a good improvement over the stock JJs. For the Phono stage valves, I'm using Watford Valves own 'Harma Retro' ecc83 Mullard-copies which are also excellent.

The GE 5751 is brilliant in the Series 7. I had a 25RS on loan for a short while and it really showed up the differences when I tried different valves in the 7. When I put the GE in it just snapped into focus in a dramatic way. It really has everything. This is a red tip triple mica, and black plate I think.

My 25R has 5 ECC83 valves. Can anybody tell me what each controls? I had it upgraded from standard spec which only had 3.

Hi Bernie,

With the 25R front facing you, from left to right:

One channel phono stage; other channel phono stage; line stage; one channel regulator; other channel regulator.

 Alan

Completely agree Andrew. I now have one in the 7, one in the linestage of the 25R and a pair of Gold Lion ECC83 in the PSU (the two on the right). Stunning and I'll now leave my tube rolling at that. Given the price of the more esoteric vintage stuff, the Jan GE are very reasonably priced at £55 a pair.

The ge jan 5751 is a really nice valve for the crofts.
In my 25r/ 7r setup I ended up with cv 4004s throughout, except for a 12bh7a in the preamp line stage (the latter on Glenn's recommendation). Fortunately, I had a couple of cv4004s from the days before they got expensive.
Stop me if you've heard this one before, but I've not found any ecc83 or 5751 that sounds as good in the preamp line stage as a 12bh7a or e80cc.

Hi Ian,

I have recommended the GE 5751 in the Series 7 for sometime as this really is good in the input stage. The valve I have used for the past 12 months was a NOS Long Plate GE BH7A. This valve is great on detail but dynamics are a bit subdued.

However I have just popped in a JAN GE 5751 and wow this has given the whole system a quick in the a***! Think my BH7A was getting bit long in the tooth.

Where do you guys tend to buy the tubes you recommend above?

Many thanks
