The final of BBC Young Musician is tonight (and I'm lucky to have tickets :))

The semi-final was superb, I found it almost impossible to pick a "winner". It was a shame that the violinist didn't get through, although I admit to being a little biased when it comes to strings. It's going to be interesting with both a percussionist and recorder player performing concertos. The audience and the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra are in for a treat I think. The pianist was a bit OTT in gestures and lacking in emotional depth IMO. My money is on the percussionist.

Who do people think will walk away with the trophy?

Watched it over the last two nights, absolutely superb talent. Much better than all the other crap on :mental:

I couldn't have picked from the semifinalists either. I think I'm with you on the percussionist.

So how did you enjoy the final??

As good as the percussionist was, I thought the pianist was a thoroughly deserved winner in the end ... I've seen a lot of the top pianists but I would have paid good money to see this chap play.

I must dig out my recording of 'Rhapsody on a Theme ...' with the master that is Ashkenazy ...
