Hi Marco and all,

It's been a long while since I have posted but I am pleased to tell you that Croft Amplifiers will be playing in a show for the first time in Eons. Arthur K has kindly invited us to be part of his room setup for the Brighton show this weekend. :)

No Glenn won't be there as he is far too busy building amplifiers for the Germans and trying to clear his order book in time for the cricket season.

If you have any questions I will be around most of Saturday and part of Sunday.

I will come back and post some photos later.

Also of note is the funk firm's latest turntable offerings and some very exciting loudspeakers.

Room 125, hope to see you there, Matt.

Hi Matt,

Nice to see you popping in again. Hope you are well :) You're a wee bit late for posting this, though, as it's happening today! ;)

Anyway, I hope that both Croft and Funk products are well recieved by show-goers, and that they place plenty of orders

Marco.

Hi Marco,

It was all a bit lastminute.com and I could have been more on the ball about it.

I don't do much webdesign these days so tend to stay away from the computer.

Anyway, I will be taking some pictures and letting people know more about the room.

Loudspeakers will be ART Neo 8.3s and Arthur is showing some new decks.

More to come later.

Thanks for having me.

Matt.

That would also mean building Integrated's with one(1) potmeter!

ATM I do not want to make it too clear here ;)

Hi Marco, it has been a good day at the show with good feedback about the sound. I really liked the new deck which played most of the day (the L.S.D). Also the Art Neo 8.3s were really up my street. There were some technical difficulties, but we got there in the end. Normal show drama.

My first show in a couple of years and I had a good day, I spent a good half hour speaking to Max Townshend, I have used his Isolda for a number of years and it was great to talk to such a down to earth and knowledgeable man. A pleasure to meet and a gent. Unfortunately that also means that I have added items to a shopping list which previously didn't exist. :( The drawback of being an audio nut.

There were some good sounds coming out of a number of rooms so it was pleasing to arrive at some alternative ways to achieve real music.

Early start again tomorrow so I'll sign off.

Cyreg, yes I think one of his German dealers nagged him enough to give in and build with single pots. I don't think Glenn ever wanted that image to see British shores you guys were never supposed to know. ;) LOL

Dave, he's working hard, it was a push to get the amps sent out for the show. Hope you get your orders soon. :)

Marco, I'll post more in the coming days.

bye for now...

As a little side note, I am very glad to hear that Croft products now have a new distributor in Greece - they are very well regarded in this part of the world.

I must say that I cannot imagine using just one pot when two provides far greater accuracy not to mention flexibility, e.g. when sitting slightly off axis. I haven't met a stereo pot which tracked accurately across the volume range.

And....? Matt do you have some more info/pictures on how it has been in Brighton (and which Croft's were listened to?)

Cyreg I did say the amps taken to the show were the Croft 25R and the Croft Series 7R.

The amps were played on Saturday but not Sunday, on Sunday Arthur was doing more A/B demos between the decks.

The amps were a feature but not the focus of the room, after all it was the Funk's room where the TT's were the focus.

I will be putting up photo's in due course as of yet I have not unpacked my camera.

I had a great weekend but it was unfortunately marred by the tragic loss of a close friend of both myself and Glenn who had sadly succumbed to her cancer.

Right now hifi is not in my thoughts. I'll be back in due course.

Regards, Matt.

Hi Cyreg, I just read that your amp is the LFD, as a coincidence the other amp in the funk room was an LFD Integrated MM, it's owner Paul said it was a 3k amp so I would make an educated guess that it was a MKiV. The sound of it and the Croft were not a million miles apart. Subtle differences in the midrange were the only area where I could separate them, as to which sounded the best depended upon who you asked as is often the case in this game. Both created sound impressive enough to keep people planted for over half an hour and sometimes more... with the Funk LSD and the Saffire as sources of course!

Regards, Matt.

Hello Matt, sorry for your loss...... and thx for answering my Q.

In a few weeks I myself can find out the differences between LFD 3.1/mm and Croft Integrated/mm :)

If Paul has a silver-grey LFD with phono in one box, it would be the same as mine!
The black MkIV can't have a phono pcb; it has not enough room in the smaller, sturdier box ;)
In due time I'll let my findings know in my other Croft thread here on AoS. Han

Hi Han,

Thanks for your kind words.

Yes it would be a mark IV then as it was black we were also using a step up transformer into line. My mistake was thinking that this was for MC only whereas it must have been for MC and MM.
