There's an AP4 / 508 set on hififorsale http://www.hififorsale.com/adverts/for-sale/amps-and-pre-amps/display/4037/paul
Looks good! Prob £200 + worth there.

Oh, does it work?
It powers up , not tried it yet as I am chilling listening to Tull and drinking BEER :D:cool:
Haha... Exactly what one SHOULD be doing at 11.30am on a Sunday!
Here's a little info from Google search (sure you didn't misspell albarry?):
Specs: http://translate.google.co.uk/translate?hl=en&sl=it&u=http://www.audiocostruzioni.com/r_s/pre/albarry-ap4/albarry.htm&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dalbarry%2Bap4%26client%3Dsafari%26hl% 3Den-gb
This forum thread suggests its a passive Pre but with an active stage too (prob what the +16dB switch does, switch it to active):

Did he out do you?
Yes he did :(
I can see the allure of beer even at this early stage in the day but I don't think I could have resisted plumbing that Albarry in as soon as I got it home :) Looks like it could be really good.

Yes try it out later. you should have accumulated enough pishanto by now that you can put together a killer system if you can find time to try all the various combinations :)
I try to keep off the booze until after the sun goes over the yardarm but I may start early today having been spurred on by your example ;)

OK MumS ThE wOrD.
My dad used to have one of these, with an S508. It is passive, and will work without power for line level sources. The +16db brings in the active stage which may seem to add punch, but that may just be the illusion of instant increased volume. I seem to remember the phono stage was rather nice (my Dad was running an LPT/RB300/Denon DL-304 at the time). He regretted selling them almost immediately, but the dealer he part-exed them with refused to sell him them back.

Albarry's have a reputation for lasting for years, I had a pair of M408's for 25 years, they still sounded great when I sold them.
Hopefully the unit you have bought will prove to sound good and make you smile.
I look forward to your report on your experience.
enjoy your music
Cheers Al:cool:
