View Full Version : Late notifications

Is it just me or is anyone else getting thread updates and PMs really late. I had a PM from one member and it took over 3 whole days before it arrived in my email inbox.

Thread notifications are also arriving late, ranging from 2 - 3 days, whereas I used to get them every day just after midnight.

I'd be interested to see if others are affected. Nothing has been changed on the server. This could be an isolated issue at Franks end...

I have, too, for the last ten days but thought it was because our Broadband has been up the spout a bit.

My notification for this thread came through in about 5 minutes. Are you both with the same broadband provider?

I'm with Sky through Openreach (BT can't be arsed to put Fibre into my bit of London - no govt subsidy...)

I'm with Sky too and the service was "upgraded" last week apparently.

Come to think of it, there have been a couple of other emails slow to arrive but not by three days as in the AoS notifications

I am having the same issue - got a PM notification a day late today...

My broadband supplier is BE which was recently taken over by Sky, sadly...

I've been intermittently getting late e-mail notifications over the last week or so. Had none for two days then a whole bundle of them. It isn't my service or junk filter and I've changed no settings. It's likely GG's SMTP outbound gateway stopping or getting stuck.

Marco
11-02-2014, 06:55
Not sure that's the case, dude, as everything is normal at my end, in terms of notifications. I've been getting them near-instantly. If it were Global Gold related, surely I'd also be affected?

Marco.

It depends if you use new message e-mail notifications, which I do. I've definitely had periods of silence and gone onto AoS to check if there were any new posts, which there were. Tapatalk on my phone also confirmed activity. The problem isn't my end as I have very busy incoming e-mail. It's been stopping and restarting with bursts of messages intermittently this last week.

I put it down to technology.

Yep, definitely a bunged-up feeling of late with no notifications at all for days - then all the bleeders turn up at once and bung up the old email inbox.

It seems to have eased up a bit like a good dose of ex-lax over the last day or 3. :eyebrows:

It sounds like there was an issue but now it's resolved itself. I'll keep an eye on this thread so if there is any further constipation please post about it here :)

This morning I had 2 notifications from 3 days ago and the "midnight run" of 4 up to date ones from yesterday. Received another 3 day one a moment ago.

I turned my notification emails off yesterday

I do, in terms of receiving an email every time soemthing new has been posted in the mod area. When that happens, I receive an email approx 2-3 mins after the message has been been posted, and the speed of that service has remained a constant for the last few months.

I presume that the system for me receiving said emails is the same as it is for you receving your notifications? :)

The system is the same, Marco, but possibly you're not seeing the bursty nature of it with so few notifications. I get about 50-60 per day and soon notice if they dry up.

Mike: I want that on the front of my T-shirt, and 'RTFM' on the back ;)

I don't get many notifications but just noticed this thing today..

Got an email at 10.47am today but the email itself was dated Tuesday 25th 1.50PM ! 2.5 days arrival time from being supposedly sent.

I don't know anything about anything really but an off the top of my head guess is that it's to do with the servers AoS runs from and how/when they connect to SMTP servers (or however the email is sent).

Just going to look at the full header and see where time stops...

Well here are the two time relevent parts of the email header:

Received:
from 127.0.0.1 (EHLO theartofsound-net.ggserv.co.uk) (91.215.181.231) by mta1192.mail.ir2.yahoo.com with SMTPS; Fri, 28 Feb 2014 10:47:52 +0000

So received by the forum thing from the internal email whatsit at the right time. Received by yahoo 2.5 days later. Don't think that was particularly informative but there you go..

Time to send another email to ggserv perhaps!

You need to mark them as not spam, Mike, otherwise they will likely continue to be put in your spam box and it could affect other gmail users as the system learns from usage.

This should all be sorted now. We had a few issues with email, all now resolved.

If you add contact@theartofsound.net to your address book, it should also whitelist our address and ensure that your own email program or webmail doesn't inadvertently park our stuff in your junk mail folder.

Thanks for your patience :)
